How to Tell If Computer has Ethernet Card?

Hello all, I'm taking my laptop overseas for a conference and am told I need to have an ethernet card for internet hookup. I've tried in vain to discover whether I have one already installed on this computer. Can anyone tell me? Here are the specs:

HP Pavilion Entertainment series dv6500 running Vista

Bought in 2007

Under Device Manager/Network Adapters are two items:

broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN

NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

Does any of this give the answer I need? I "think" there's an ethernet port but don't know for sure. And if there is an ethernet port, is there also an ethernet card?

if you will need to connect using Ethernet be sure you carry an Ethernet cable with you! As zep said they look similar to a phone cord but the end connector is bigger than for the phone.
I have several various length cables, before I had my wireless router I used a 50 ft Ethernet cable to use my netbook in my recliner. I pick them up a Fry's but any place with electronics has them.

I warned you I was computer rookie. Here is what I know: 1. I have two computers. One that is set up for wireless( laptop) and one that is an older computer no wireless and is hooked up to the router. 2. Both of them work connecting to the internet 3. My older one has issues and is very slow so I mostly use my laptop. Professor said something about his blackboard and wireless has problems time to time 4. I have the cable from the wall from the cable company that is hooked to their modem and then through an ethernet the older computer has a cable from router to it. 5. I wanted to do the same thing with my laptop. I tried disconnecting the olderr computer to the router and plugging the laptop in it's place but it still appears it is using wireless( because when I disenabled wireless) it wouldn't hook to internet I don't know how to check wireless settings to accept all like somebody recommended thanks

So there are 2 NIC cards and you cannot install drivers for either of them. At this point perhaps we should turn our attention to the motherboard. Have you tried using a different PCI slot? You might also try installing the video drivers to see if there is an issue there as well. Why did you decide to replace the CMOS battery? Nothing wrong with doing that but I was curious as to why you did it. Did you remove the power cord from the rear of the computer each time you went in making changes? As you had a PCI NIC card is this a home built computer? If so what motherboard is in there? If factory built give us a make and model of the computer.

Besides the above which is entirely possible,there are potentially numerous locations where the volume can be controlled and each has to be checked; the keyboard, the Notification Area icon, the Control Panel, any mixer installed,and audio support software to name a few. You have to check them all. Plus, it wouldn't be the first time the system was accidently muted so check those settings too. I just did a house call last weekend for "no volume" in one speaker. Looked all over and finally found the slide bar in a freshly installed WinAmp adjusted all the way to one side. Of course, no one knew how it got this way. DA

First of all you will need to figure out why the CD Rom does not recognize the recovery disk. The user should put the recovery disk in, then reboot, see if the disk is recognized at that point. If you get the NTLDR message it's still trying to boot from the hard drive. Check the boot order in BIOS. Now come back and tell us what happens and what error is generated when the user boots the computer with the recovery disk in it. Then tell us the user has checked the BIOS and the CD rom is listed as the first boot device. If this computer is back from repair with the same issue I can only think the hard drive is failing....

And don't spend more than about $5-$6 for a cable. Many walk-in stores will charge a ridiculous amount for cables. As you can see from the link below, you can get ethernet cables of up to 100' in this price range. For travel, you may want to pick one that is lighter weight: the thicker ones are sturdier, but may be a bit heavy if you get a really long one.
