Well, the frame that surrounds any iPad screen is about an inch wide. If it's a black iPad, it's black; if it's a white iPad, it's white. The display does not go from edge to edge. Is this what you are talking about?

No..I'm sorry I didn't explain this right...it doesn't open full screen. Mine has a "frame" also....this is the actual window that doesn't open full screen

Is this on every page? Home screen? Particular app? What?

I've never heard of that problem. If this is still under warranty, why not call Apple or visit an Apple store?

Well, I've never heard of it either and I've been reading and reading and trying to find where someone else might have experienced this. Yes, it is that way all the time...the home screen...any app...all the time.

I'm going to suggest she visit an Apple Store...she got it for Christmas

I didn't have any luck searching Google, either, and I am pretty good usually at finding tech fixes. Since she is under warranty, she might be able to get it fixed in just a few minutes on the phone...Apple support is really good. In any case, when it gets fixed, please post back on what was going on. I have an iPad, too, and would like to be prepared!

I have an iPad also and I have a very good "how to" book for iPads. This book has close to three hundred pages, but no where does it mention a problem such as this. I know she won't call Apple, but I'm going to see if she can have one of her kids take it in and ask questions. I'll make sure they let us know what they say.

Interesting that she won't take 5 minutes on the phone to Apple getting the Customer Service that is built-in to the price of the iPad, but she will have someone make a special trip? I'm not trying to be critical, but just surprised that someone won't take the fastest and easiest route. I've talked with Apple twice on the phone: they answered right away, and were polite, helpful, and understandable. Is she afraid they'll be too technical or what?

Well, you've got to understand she didn't even know she "had" a problem until I went to her house and she is very bad about trying new things (hard to put into words). I just forge ahead and keep trying until I get something fixed. I also get in trouble sometimes doing that...but, I want things to work. What is the number for Apple Support? I sent her to the site where she could do live chat with a tech...I've had good luck doing that also. I probably should have just left her alone, but she saw my iPad and how it was supposed to look. She might as well have an iPad mini if that is as big as her window is going to be.

When the call is made, she'll need to read off the serial number from the back of the iPad (it's also listed in "Settings / About") so they can confirm it's still under warranty. After that is done, she should be connected promptly to a human. Good luck.

Okay...I'm going to get in touch with her now and tell her to call instead of doing the live chat...that was the number I had, but I wasn't sure of it...thank you...I'll let you know how it goes

Okay...this family has three iPads that don't come up full screen...all of them thought it was supposed to look like that. My friend used the 800 number yesterday and they tried a fix for it that didn't work. Now, they are going to maybe (if she calls them back) work through iTunes and try and fix the problem (at this point, she "knows" there is a problem) They told her that if that doesn't work, she should go to an Apple store and have them look at it and they would probably replace it with an iPad 2. Now, I didn't say anything else at this point, but I think she as the New iPad and not iPad 2, but that's what she was told over the phone. There must be no easy fix for this, but I find it strange that three in the same family have the problem. The same person set them all up to begin with...I wonder if she could have done something wrong? It didn't seem that hard to do. I don't know if all three of them were bought at the same time or not.

Thanks for the update. That is really weird! I have two iPads, and the setup process is so easy it's hard to imagine how you could mess something up if you wanted to. I'll be fascinated to find out what the full story is.
