Thank you for responding. Power supply make: Dell (celetronix?) model: cx305n-00 USB plug-ins w/o own electric - keyboard, mouse, occasional camera and ipod USB plug-ins w/ an electric plug: printer, external hard drive, speakers. Monitor has own power obviously. Other stuff w/o own power- 1 card reader, 2 dvd drives, video card, 2 memory cards, fan, sound card, 2 hard drives. The error message regarding the power supply only appeared 2 times about a week apart before this all happened. If I do a restart, there is no error message any more. I did not reformat! At one point, I was not able to start windows and they wanted me to reformat. But really, the memory card just wasn't in right from all my unplugging and replugging. Fortunately, I always hang up when they want to reformat! Lol! In the meantime, I had them help me disable the RAID to save things that weren't backed up. I have since backed up. Phew! Also whether this is of note or not, the two USB plugs in front of the computer are unusable as both stripped the USB cables of their pins. They are stuck in there and I can't use them. If I try, the system could reboot but mostly just doesn't see what I plugged in. I told Dell of this and they said that they are attached to the motherboard and that to replace them, I would have to replace the motherboard so I left it. It has been that way about a year. Next time it goes down, I might try to remove them with some needle nose pliers. I have tried two different brands of batteries with the same result. I have tried to reuse the batteries and they do seem to be drained. This has to take place while the computer is off for a period of time. I can do a restart once the computer is on. Batteries were in single or double packs. I didn't notice any corrosion. Everything is shiny. But really, I might need to get glasses or a magnifying glass to see something like that. The battery is CR2032 - 3 volts. I have been reinstalling the battery immediately as I read somewhere that there could be a memory problem with the bios if I left it out for a period of time so I never tried 30 minutes. That I would only do with Dell on the phone because of my warranty. Maybe they will try that next? All components, including the raid system, came with the computer. It is still under warranty for a couple more years. Dell had me take off one item at a time and restart with each item unplugged. They also had me plug into the wall which makes it sometimes work when other things fail. I have replaced the surge protector but I still have to plug the CPU into the wall, at least when it first jump starts. It has been getting progressively worse as far as how many items need to be unplugged before it comes back. Replacing the battery was my idea and it works. I have been leaving the computer on all the time and want to finish some year end bookkeeping stuff before I risk turning off again. But soon I will have to call Dell back and I don't want to go through the dance again, only to be down again and maybe next time not be able to get back up at all. Nor do I feel 100% comfortable playing with all the wires while the computer is plugged in. Though I'm careful, I've seen a couple of sparks already and some plug-ins are cramped. But after that long winded post, what would cause the cmos battery to lose power while the computer is off, if that is what is happening? It has to be some kind of power leak?

Thought I'd update. Got Windows installed without a hitch, Dell talked me through it. I debated whether to put Win 7 in since I was starting from scratch but worried some of my software might not work Everything went well except I couldn't find drivers for some things such as my wireless adapter so couldn't get on line. Called Linksys and they spent over an hour trying to get the driver in and finally did. That was the best part, finally getting on line and getting hit with a zillion MS updates. I have misplaced or lost some software. We moved here in March and I could not locate my Office disk, wireless mouse/keyboard software and a few other things, might have gotten lost in the move. I'm most concerned about Office 07. I paid for it. Dell says they can't help and I could try contacting MS and see if they would do anything. I haven't moved any of my files back yet. Otherwise, I feel like the computer runs better than when it was new. Things seem different, have to fool with fonts and views, but I'm amazed how effortlessly the machine runs. This computer always seemed to have a few 'glitches' but I was used to it. Now it seems so fast and smooth (of course there isn't much running on it yet.) I don't know how to thank everyone for all the support and help I received. You are the best friends anyone could ever ask for. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks! I really like laser printers unless you do color, but if you do a lot they're still cheaper and less hassle than inkjets. I like the space savings of an all-in-one and looked at one at Target. I'm curious about the Kodak printers. They're comparable in price to HP but the ink is much cheaper than others. That's one of their advertisements. Don't know anyone personally who has one but the reviews I've read have been favorable. I have a Brother HP2040 laser and it's great, but of course it's black only. I also have an old Epson inkjet that I bought for $3 at a garage sale but it's not working right - ink dried up from non-use. I go in streaks where I'll print 100 sheets or more in a couple days, then won't print anything for 4 or 5 months. Bought the laser right when I was required to do a lot of printing for work but that changed shortly after I got the printer! But I don't regret getting it. I still have need for faxing on occasion so I would want the fax capability in it, and I think the copier function would be handy. I usually use a scanner and printer for quick copies. And use my XP unit for faxing from the computer on occasion or receiving if need be and I have a fax machine for sending too. Way more than you wanted to know, huh? LOL I'll say this about HP. Generally they're good quality but they have big issues with drivers and software. They can really make a mess out of a machine when things go wrong. I've had to straighten out a lot of units and HP is far more problematic in this regard than others. However, when they work properly they're usually pretty good units. But from my experiences I'd personally avoid them. I'd rather work on their problems when I'm billing for it rather than my own time.

If your closet is 3.5' deep you have plenty of room to put in a computer desk. I am not talking about having you to work inside the closet. Just having the desk and shelves in the closet. Then you open the bifold doors and pull up a chair and pull out the keyboard tray from the desk. You would have lots of breathing room. You wouldn't be *inside* the closet at all. You could keep all the peripherals off to the side in the closet behind the wall that you say you have for storage in the closet. When you are done move the chair back and pull the closet doors closed. All the paperwork mess is hidden. You could build a custom desk and shelving as another option. If you really want to put a TV on the room, why not consider puttting the TV on the wall above the dresser rather than having the mirror. Could this work for you? You have a connecting bathroom with a mirror to use and probably do not need another huge mirror a few steps away in the bedroom. Mirrors in bedrooms are bad Feng Shui anyway, then again, so are having TVs in the bedroom, but if it fits your lifstyle then do it. You could also get a matching modular entertainment center put the TV in it and use the drawers for your socks and sweaters. There is no rule that says you have to use the drawers for media related items.
