going back to older Firefox

I've been using the newest Firefox (3.0) for several weeks and don't like it. Seems bloated, much slower to open, and I prefer the simpler address bar drop-down in the old one.

Anybody know how to go back to the previous version? I don't have that installer program any longer. If I can keep the bookmarks, that would be great. Thanks.

The link below will provide you with the last Firefox v2.0 release. Just download and save it. Then delete the v3.0 through the Control Panel. Install the replacement version.

It is my recollection that the bookmarks are retained, but to be safe I would copy the file.

FYI, without uninstalling 3.0, I just went ahead and installed 2.x to see what would happen. No problem whatsoever, and I even got the bookmarks. (Curiously, it didn't even tell me I already had a later version)

Home schooling? Are you kidding? Do you want to see me in a rubber room! lol We fought so hard to get the kids into the schools that they are in. I couldn't see pulling them out after what we went through. Kyle's feeling so much better. I treated his ears with the tea tree oil and after 1 dose he had no more pain and his fever didn't come back. Barb I can't believe you are going to have snow. Maybe I should stop complaining. Bruce got most of my plants outside while I was away, thank God. I can walk in my living room now. All my brug babies look good but a couple passie seedlings dried out pretty bad. I'll see if they bounce back. I'm not going to say anything to DH because he must have spent at least 2 solid days cleaning out my plants so I wouldn't have to do it. I still have to empty the greenhouse and now I get to start some of the seeds from the tropical RR.

Does this only happen when you first open the browser or open a new page...not subsequently when you click on a bookmark? If so, have you gone into the Options settings to check the homepage? It could be that somehow what you have coming up is set as your default home page.

I'm always hesitant to download FF add-ons because I've had some cause browsing issues at certain websites. I'm curious about Stylish though, I've seen that you can change to some predetermined style that someone has created and I'm not interested in doing that with my page. All I want to do is change the font to something more pleasing to the eye and change the background color to tone it down a bit. Can I do that with Stylish? I've looked at a few videos and all I see is some format choices that I really don't want to use. Could someone tell me how to use Stylish to make my own choices of fonts and background colors?

What an ordeal for you all! I'm sure you were more than happy to get that behind you and get home! With all the decluttering threads I've been reading lately, I hope everyone (myself included) will read and heed. We're not filled to the gills, but we do need to sort out and get rid of an over-abundance of things so we don't put our kids through this one day. Books we won't ever read again, sentimental things our kids don't want and we don't need, etc. I'm retiring soon and the attack will begin.

Instant improvement!

Speedwise, version 2.0.0.15 is blazing compared to 3.0. Glad to be rid of it.

I find it very interesting as to the retro-overwrite. However, I am glad for you. I never gave it any thought as I almost never recommend overwrites.

If you could, would you check the Windows Add/Remove utility in the Control Panel to see whether or not both versions of FF are registered on the computer. I am just curious.

just to let you know if you should go back to version 3 you can change the address bar back to the same style that you had in the version 2 firefox.

it is a very good idea to back up your bookmarks file and your profile file before moving from one version to the next major version such as from 2 to 3. That link has some good info on just how to do those backups.
I keep copies of my bookmark file in several locations because I have a lot of bookmarks I would not want to loose. I have it on cd, on an online backup site and as a file saved on my computer.

I have FF version 2.0.0.16.

I've followed the links in Raven's post and while it is all interesting, really don't see any reason or need to get the new FF3.

Think I'll stay with what I have.

To answer your question, the Add/Remove Utility now only shows version 2.0.0.16 (hmmm, I could have sworn I had 2.0.0.15 earlier today - anyway, no sign of 3.x)

An update to v2.0.0.15 was post on the same website yesterday creating a now most recent 2.0 version of v2.0.0.16.
