Having to log in each time I come here.

Hi everyone,

I have windows XPSP3 and Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox. It makes no difference which browser I use when I come to this forum, I have to log in each time. I am experiencing the same thing on another forum as well. I also have CCleaner but I checked that out and it is set up for the cookies to stay so it isn't that. The only thing that has happened lately is that for some reason I found Google Chrome on my desktop and so I went in to add/remove programs and removed it. I don't see how that could have caused an issue but then, I have never had that on this computer until a couple of days ago and like I said I removed it.

I have checked several different places but all seems normal. I am at a loss as to what is going on. Any ideas what might be causing this issue? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

maybe an old stale cookie.
CCleaner // options / cookies ,,, move garden web cookies over to be deleted, run ccleaner to get rid of them.

go to garden web 1st thing.. look in cookies
move it over to saved
login.. look at cookies.. move it over to saved

I would clear all the cache and cookies in your browser
Go to the main page here at GW click up top on garden web login from that page, it for some reason matters. Check for it to save your information.

Just for curiosity (because of something mentioned in another thread) I tried to send myself an e-mail via the 'send this member an e-mail' link, and got the message 'cannot locate this member'. Doing away with paid memberships sounds a bit drastic. They must reckon that they'll make more money from forcing ads on us?

Karen - do you want the tomato seeds I harvested from my grape tomato and Stupice fruit last year? I've got about 3 trades' worth I could send you. I accidentally spilled them on my desk so they may be mixed together but once they take off, you'll know which is which--the grape tomatoes (from Diane's Flower Seeds) grew 9 ft. tall last year. I think the seaweed extract/worm poop tea I fed them might have been part of the reason they grew so tall. Anyway, they're yours for postage.

Ah, Sandy. I still have OS 8.6 functional on a Mac II CI. Still, I don't ever use the machine anymore, because it is soooooo slow! On the other hand, my Power Mac G4 400, is now an "old" machine also, and I have upgraded the OS to vs. 10.2.8, but that's as far as I can go, without a new machine. It is a never ending money pit, but new machines are unavoidable, just to stay connected to the web and email. Even your ISP will not support systems but sooooo old, and if you want things to work well, you are forced to upgrade at some point. I can tell you that you won't need anything more than an iMac, today, to get very adequate capabilities on a Mac. I can also tell you that the price gap between wintel and Mac has all but disppeared, if you compare functionality to funtionality. In fact, at work, I actually had to pay more for a Dell, that did the same job as a Power Mac G5. (smile) If you have an Apple store anywhere near you, it might be worth checking a new machine out. (Or a Fry's superstore, although they won't be able to offer as much help to you, as the Apple store, in looking at what the new machines will do.) Otherwise, my favorite on-line folks are Small Dog. Best support out there.....including Apple. (smile)

I use firefox on all my computers and add the extension ad block plus and use the easylist subscription for it, all free and super easy to install and use, I never ever see an ad anywhere when online including here. That in itself is worth it for me plus all the other awesome firefox extensions I use daily. You can have more than one browser on the pc in fact it is wise to have more than one in case IE fails then you can still have access to online, and you can use IE at the same time. I have had to log in a few more times but assumed that was due to the problems GW posted about in the red print on the start pages. We have had several threads about this over on the computer help forum here and have helped several to get firefox set up so if you need help just head that way.

Hi raven, where is the main page? I know this sounds odd but, All of the time that I have been on this forum I've only had this page listed in my favorites. Hi,

My computer tech had me to reset IE8 and now I don't have to log in from IE8 but I have all of the adds again and I don't remember how to remove them does anyone know?

Now, when I go here using "Firefox" I am still having to log in. So now I have two things going on. Your help is greatly appreciated.

yea you need to clear all the cache and cookies etc in firefox too. up top click on tools then scroll down to clear recent history, in that box select all the things to clean out then in the time period slot use the drop down arrow and select everything OK.

I do not use IE8 so can not help there much.

Joyce,

I was having trouble too with my FF. I went into CCleaner's cookie tool and removed all the Garden Web and Ivillage entries from the Keep side. This is done by right-clicking on each of them. I then ran CC and and FF's Clear Recent History. Things are fine now.

A kind of combination of above suggestions.

Update on logging in.

I don't have to log in using IE8 here or at the other computer site that I use but, when I use Firefox I have to log in both sites. I don't understand what is going on with Firefox. Sorry Raven and DA I followed your instructions and it didn't work for Firefox. Any other ideas? I have no idea why Firefox is not keeping the cookies is there another setting that I need to check out? If so please send me detailed instructions for me to follow. Thank you for your help.

Finally I found the problem with Firefox. I had to allow third party cookies in order to come on and not have to log in. I am sending two links for you to read.

Please tell me what you think about this. One talks about making sure third party cookies are checked not sure what they mean about the disable- third- party cookies. But that was what the problem was, once I put the check mark in for third party cookies I stopped having problems with logging in.

I don't have an answer.

I don't have third party cookies enabled. Nor first party. I allow no cookies by default but instead add exceptions for those sites I see fit. Just a personal thing. Makes me feel more in control I suppose.

I seldom have to log in.

Thank you chuggerguy for the information I really appreciate it. I think though that I will stay put for now, since everything is working OK. I am afraid if I start messing around that I might end up having problems again. Still I appreciate your info.
