Flash update problem

Ran Secunia scan and it said Flash Player needed updating. Tried to update but wouldn't update. Got info to remove old Flash 11.7 files which I did. Still wouldn't update. Removed Flash through add/remove. Same problem. Tried Revo but Flash Player no longer shows in programs.

Went to Secunia support and followed their directions to locate old remnants of Flash in Win 32. Tried to remove a 11.7 file and I get a 'read only file' and it won't allow me to remove it. States the file is write protected.

So now I have no Flash installed that works. Flash is necessary to watch video news clips and stock quotes.

Any ideas? Flash does not show up anywhere in add/remove. I think I need to get that file out of Win 32.

I'm running XP3, Firefox. I did try to install FF Flash plugin and it won't install, just keeps trying.

Are you using the Adobe web site to do the update? If no, use the link below. I have Flash running on 2 computers. Each time an update is due the notice pops up on the screen and I tell it to proceed. Never had a problem. I'm sure others will disagree, but I prefer going directly to the source when doing critical updates and prefer not to involve a third-party. Your mileage may vary.

Hi jane_ny,

Even though you used Revo to uninstall Adobe Flash completely, try the Adobe Flash uninstall tool in the link below to see if that helps.

You' find the download to the right of 1. under Solutions on the page I linked you to..

Revo is a great uninstaller, though I have encounter a few times (depending on what you tried to uninstall) that it just didn't make the grade.

Let us know if you succeed.

I've had minor problems with the last/current version of Flash Player locking up the browsers and stopping internet for a few moments when on certain webpages. I assume it will be fixed soon as I've notice several others having seemingly identical issues. Its supposed to be more safe than previous versions.. they update it mostly for protecting us from newer threats. If you think you need it .. install it. If you don't miss it.. don't install it. The DML in in my firefox add-0ns When I go to the links that you have provided, it takes me to the very same page that installed this add-on I have Adobe Flash Player 10.0.22.87 And Adobe Flash player plugin 10.0.42.34 According to the Adobe page, the latest version is 10.0.45.2 I clicked on a picture to enlarge the pic on ebay and this message came up. I will caution you on using any of those type applications on a facebook page it is much safer to go to the actual game site home page and play there, any app like that on facebook can be and have often been altered to infect a users pc by changing the scripting of the app. I urge people to NEVER use any type of 3rd party app on facebook or any other social networking site, people set those things up specifically to entice people to use them and get infected. Since you have been using them I would urge you to download, update and run a full scan with malwarebytes free to see if you are possibly infected. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for a reality check just go to google and search for facebook virus for just a few of the many types of infections out there. Facebook and my space are a hackers dream land.

You may need to do a Restore from a date back a few weeks. Then I'd try to let Flash update on its own.

I got the Flash update notice from Adobe a few days ago, I think version status gets triggered when a web page initiates Flash to run. As is the case with most programs, version updates get checked when execution starts. I'm not sure what value is added by these secondary utilities.

Thank you all for your help. I'm beginning to think the problem is with Secunia. I remember getting a notice to update Flash about a week ago and did, (I'm not one hundred percent it was Adobe Flash). I know I updated Adobe Shockwave (no idea what I use that for).

I tried everything last night and gave up. I currently have Flash 11.7 but have the 11.8 plugin.

I will try a system restore, thank you Snidely, if necessary. I'm waiting to see if I get an update notice from Adobe. If not tonight, I'll do a restore.

I like using Secunia because it checks my machines for updates. You are correct that these programs are probably unnecessary, but I find they inform me before the company does and keep reminding me. I've had a problem with Secunia in the past not recognizing an already updated program. I think this might be the case. Thanks, Donna I appreciate the uninstall tool. Didn't find that on my own. Will try that if I can't get the update. Azinoh, I do updates from the Adobe website, thank you.

Jane, I have had troubles with Secunia, also. Now the latest version of Avast AV has an update notice for installed programs, so I got rid of Secunia and rely on reminders from Avast.

grandms. I do the same as well. I didn't use Secunia but I did use UpDateChecker. Avast8 free not only includes a software updater, it also includes a browser cleanup tool which I find very nice to have.

I just received an update for Flash last night and it installed with no problems at all after downloading to my desktop.
