I don't know if or how many of you are up on this new printing technology but as for myself .. "I have Never seen anything like this except maybe on Star-trek"!

They actually 'print' out a 3D adjustable wrench in this video that the guy then uses to tighten bolts with! 8)

This is some truly amazing stuff!

wow technology is just blazing new trails, that is truly amazing

It reminds me of the Jetsons they had that thing in the wall they would tell it what they wanted and poof it would appear, also the replicators in Star Trek

You might be able to make a larger size a little easier If you adjust the dimensions for the one cut five point star. I found some directions if you are interested. This shows it using an 81/2 X 11 piece of paper. But I'm sure it could be adjusted to a larger size, maybe using a newspaper! Here is a link that might be useful: one cut five point star

It is a matter of perspective. If you're comparing only the cost of the spools of filament needed to build a shade to the price you'd pay to get a designer lighting fixture, it may be cheaper. On the other hand, if you consider the following cost of time spent designing a similar shade, figuring out how to build it on a 3D printer and then attach it to an existing fixture. cost of the 3D printer. CAD software. cost of time spent tending to the 3D printer. cost of filament spent on the prototypes... it will be significantly more costly than getting COTS. The main reason for complex DIY is usually for exercising one's talents/ expanding scope of knowledge and abilities. A reason why DIY gets a bad rap is due to the quick, superficial analysis (of what it would take to complete a job be it painting, installing a door, making a multi-way circuit, ...) made and the lack of follow through to completion.

That is mostly techbro foodie vegan venture capital bs, in my view. To feed the world and protect the environment, you don’t want to be 3D printing fake meat or lab-growing meat cells on an artificial substrate. You want to grow vegetables and grains as efficiently as possible, vertical farming and hydroponics in some places, drip irrigated dirt farming in others, seaweed farms too, conserving resources and reducing air miles. You want to focus on protein that is efficient, so more fish, chicken, pork - and also bugs and worms (they can be fed to other protein, or we can learn to love cricket flour). Cows need to be eaten more sparingly but with great appreciation.

Ha ha, they might make the teeth but you might have to sell your home. Probably costly at the outset. Pretty incredible though

I sent the link to my husband I knew he would be fascinated and I was right he followed all the other related videos from that link and was amazed at what all has been made. He was happily enthralled for quite a while LOL

I keep wondering how that printer knows it is copying an adjustable wrench and that some parts move. I am a little skeptical.

oh it is true it all has to do with the scanner they use it is a 3D scanner so it can detect the differences in the gears and and levels of the item.

Some of those other videos are really mind blowing.

to make your teeth though they would need some to scan LOL
so not sure that would work.
