I would run 1 more additional scan it's an online scan run it when you get time. This scanner requires Internet Explorer, reason it will ask to install an active x let it... 1. Check the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use. 2. Click Start 3. When asked, allow the activex control to install 4. Click Start 5. Make sure that the option Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is check marked. 6. Click Scan 7. Wait for the scan to finish 8. Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt 9. Add the C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt log into your next reply. Susie, I have searched & can't find any Avast on it. I also went into the folders. I just did a search on this one & there is quite a bit Norton leftover on it still. AVG is on too & was working when I stopped using this one. I hope to have another one Monday if everyone would just get well..I don't drive (never learned) & all my rides are truly sick. Cat, I think I will try the XP tonite. I do know it has a LOT of problems & need to be started over..it is not worth spending $150 to do that. Nite before last I was trying to fill out a form to order something.. it took over 30 minutes to do it.. The cursor kept freezing plus it wouldn't scroll without freezing. Some on here can vouch for all the problems I have had. If I can get it running I can at least check to see if there is anything else I want saved. I tried to keep things saved as I knew this day was coming. Yes I know now the APC is probably why it wouldn't turn on but I don't think that had anything to do with the other problems. The XP took about 20 minutes to reboot.. this 98 is very fast doing it. Thanks, Dar

Here is some information I got from a colleague of mine. As far as using a borrowed disc: "The only problem may be that if the installed system has had a Service Pack added to it, the disk will need to be the same or there'll be no Repair option, just reinstallation. In other words, if the system is at SP3 level, a WIN2000 SP2 disk won't work". There have been 4 service packs, so it's more than possible! Windows key: will you need it? "As far as keys is concerned, it depends. Sometimes yes. sometimes no. I think it depends on which Service Pack has been installed and whether the key data is accessible when doing the repair". It's always possible that the person was just 'spoofing' your friend's address (i.e. using his/her own account to send an email as if from your friend. But to be on the safe side, in case it truly was a hacker -- or is it 'cracker' ? -- your friend needs to change her account's password and double-check other email settings (alternate email address, any changes in forwarding addresses, security question, etc.). Other things might be possible depending on what her email service is. Afterwards, it should be safe to open her emails. She could always take one other precaution: slightly change her 'from' name (and inform her contacts) so that from now on those receiving emails from her can be on their guard. E.g. if emails from her usually say, from "Mary Jones," she could change it to say "Mary R. Jones." That way anyone getting an email 'from' "Mary Jones" will know it's not genuine. :-)
