Click on it and you should go straight to the referenced posting. OK, let me try to be clear. The file that buehl maintains in kitchens is something of a group effort. She renews it when the thread is up and keeps it cleaned up and modern-ish in its references. She selects threads, often written by others, regarding general topics of importance when starting out with a kitchen renovation (at least this is my understanding; major apologies if I have some/any of this wrong). When I say "file" I should really say "thread" I think. There is a thread there entitled, currently (click on this): "New To Kitchens? Posting Pics? Read Me! [Help keep on Page 1]" Because GardenWeb's software is, as one far more knowledgeable about this stuff than I, says, "dinosaurean", there is no formal place for FAQs. So people/buehl on the kitchen forum (KF) have assembled their own here and there. Since there's no way to place a "sticky" thread, buehl updates this thread with links to files of interest on general "housekeeping" topics. The remainder of the thread is devoted to folks bumping the stupid thing up, frequently, to stay on page 1 where it has some hope of being found by newcomers! Before I lose you, let me draw your attention to the small type to the right of what you're reading here; it's green on my screen. One of those hyperlinks allows you to save a posting (and no, not a whole thread, maddeningly) to a space in your account for future reference. Note that you have to first click to put it there and then click to actually save it (grrrr); follow directions! So when you find someone's explanation you like about something, you have recourse to hold on to it (unless you like more than 50 such comments). BTW, I found buehl's thread on page 3 just now. The KF has a lot more traffic than this one and threads sink like lead. I'll repeat the hyperlink I had before. If you click on this is should bring you straight to buehl's photo-posting notes. This is just for reference, you can't possibly be needing them at this point! But it may still be helpful for you to figure this out in general, and buehl's thread in specific. I am starting to read some of the fine print. The Flickr limit of only 200 photos available for viewing at a time - and only being able to upload a certain number per month - are dealbreakers for me. When I finally get around to organizing my photos so I can share them with family and friends - I don't want to have to only upload a small number of them per month - I want to do them all. I imagine that after the initial batch, there won't be as many - until I digitize my slides - then I'll have another batch, etc. I know folks like Flickr - but those 2 limitations are big ones for me. I finally found the full list of services that can be used with framechannel - it does also include smugmug - and picasa, photobucket, webshots, flickr, facebook. Only photobucket and picasa will work on my Tivo. If there were a way to access my photos from my computer to my Tivo (and there must be) - then I wouldn't have to worry about using a hosting service to view photos on the tv - and I could just use the service above the most meets my needs. Anyone know if I can get my computer's photos to show up on my Tivo (I know this is getting far afield of the topic). I think using multiple hosting services will be a hassle for me - so as good as imageshack sounds, if it doesn't work with framechannel, it might not be best for me. before I rule it out, Raven, can you tell me what the firefox extensions for imageshack allow you to do that's so handy? I would like easy of uploading, no limits on how much to upload or store (although I don't imagine storing tons - I do think it would be more than 200 pictures - and periods of more heavy uploading than others), good organization. I guess so far it's between photobucket, picasa and smugmug. Further pointers and considerations are still appreciated. Lynn.

If you don't mind my making a few suggestions: --the first thing I would suggest is to collect photos of rooms that you like. After you have a collection of photos (from online or magazines), go through them and try to figure out what elements the various rooms have in common. --while you're looking at rooms in general, also pay attention to the styles of furniture that you like and why. For couches, focus on the kinds of back pillows, legs, arms, etc. Do the same things with fabrics and window treatments that catch your eye. --think about the colors that you want to use in your house. (I personally think that rooms should flow color-wise from room to room but there are no rules.) Once you have an idea of what you like, then I would go to some furniture stores and look around. In our area, we have about three or four large furniture stores that carry different manufacturers, and these stores also have in-store decorators or designers. At the first store I went to, I didn't feel like there were enough options in the style I like. At the second, I didn't really click with the salesperson. At the third, I met someone through a referral and it was a perfect match all the way around. Bring your collection of photos and fabrics with you and discuss what you want, your budget, etc. As far as furniture brands, we too like traditional but not stuffy furniture. We have pieces from Sherrill, Drexel Heritage, Ferguson Copeland, Jessica something (??), Bradington Young and others. We started with rugs and worked our way up from there, and have been very happy with what we have. Good luck and enjoy the process!
