AVG popup keeps reminding me to update

I updated AVG 2012 from the quickstart icon after I got a popup that I needed to update. I also ran a full scan. However, I still keep getting the popup telling me to update. What could be going on? I am running desktop HP Media Center, XP with the last SP (I think 3) and MBAM about once a week. I don't trust updating anything from the popups; I think I'm paranoid.

Another question, is there a way to keep my user name logged in or am I deleting it every time I run a scan?

And, thanks, whoever got rid of the Netflix that screamed at me whenever I exited some of the forums.

It's perfectly safe to update from the pop up. Try it, that may end the problem.

IF you mean that every time you visit the GardenWeb you have to login, next time you login scroll down a bit and you'll see the little box that you need the place a check in that will save your credentials so you don't have to keep typing it in every time you visit. If you use Ccleaner or something similar it may clear out your user name and password but all you'll have to do is place a check in that box again to be remembered.

did you reboot the pc after you did the update? if not try that to see if maybe the update has not yet registered in the program yet.

I hope this is not going to be another AVG disaster.

I really am starting to hate AVG lately they are not making good decisions with their product.

AVG is a software program that cleans up viruses, similar to Norton Anti-virus and McAffee. It has a free version and a paid version. Many people, myself included, use the free version, and find it to be perfectly fine for protecting the computer from viruses. If you do not use AVG than you should not be having this issue. If you are using a different virus protection program and are getting virus alerts when you come to Gardenweb, then that's a different problem all together.

When I installed the new version - it removed the old by itself. Very easy install. I did NOT choose the repair install - I chose the first one, as directed on the AVG site. Computer updated when I went back online. I also put the file I downloaded on a flash drive and installed it on my other computers and have shared it with my other dial-up friends. It was about a 1.5 hour download on dialup.

I dont have Avast on any computer here to check, but, I recently worked on one that did. If I remember correctly, it is set by default to scan both incoming and outgoing email. It is possible, that you only had to check the settings. I used to recommend downloading from cnet all the time, now it is the place, I tell everyone to stay away from. What is good for a while, isnt always good later on. The download sites above, Majorgeeks etc are very good sites to download from right now and hopefully, they will stay that way.

While I really want marble for our kitchen, we have 2 small sons and I am worried they will mess it up. We have wavered back and forth whether to go for it, but dh saw a Corian counter, Rain Cloud, in IKEA the other day and fell in love. I would normally never pay more for a manmade product, but IKEA has a 40% off counters special this month if you buy your kitchen there, so that makes it also more affordable. Since I have made virtually every other choice (I ask for his input, but his usual response is "I don't care", which translates to "whatever makes you happy" but also "if there is a screw-up, it is not mine", not to mention "you choose because I don't want to do the legwork"), I think I will "give" him this one, lol. It has a softer/warmer feel than stone and makes less noise if you clink against it. I am not 100% convinced, but am getting close. I may have to contact the PA yard about the quartzite and get a price, because that is seriously pretty too..... We can do our full kitchen with the Corian, including upcharges and customizations, installed, for less than $2k. That is going to be hard to beat. Our kitchen is not small, btw... I also forgot that if I apply for an IKEA credit card when buying, I'll get an additional 10% off and have 0% financing for 24 months. Corian Rain Cloud:

I'm half sure I rebooted, but maybe I just hibernated it. I'll turn it off to see if that does it. BBluz, I always check the little box below but it doesn't stay checked. It's not that big a deal but wonder why other sites keep my ID and GW doesn't. Funny, considering there's nothing I've entered here that's that confidential!

We have a similar problem with my husbands laptop. Updated AVG and he keeps getting a popup to 'reboot to finish install'. He's rebooted a hundred times and it won't go away.

I'm tempted to just uninstall it and use another AV, although he hasn't had any problems before with AVG. He also has XP.

Might have to uninstall and reinstall to see if it stops. I'm going to try that first.

CCleaner has an option to save your cookies for places like garden web. Click on options, then cookies and you can move the garden web cookie to the right hand side and it will be saved when you clean your cookies. I check the box on this site and it didn't save if I cleaned out my cookies.

OK, I restarted the computer and no popup came up. Let's see if it stays down. Thanks for the trick.
