Audacity records digital audio information. If you're recording a sound sourced from a record, with the sound source connected to a PC, it's gone through a A to D conversion. Which is what my first comment today mentioned as a factor limiting quality. PC level sound converters are of low quality generally. A really good one all by itself costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Whether a sound is stored in analog form or in consumer digital source, at the point where it's inside a PC and "recordable", it's digital. Digital is digital, the original source doesn't matter as far as ways to record it. When you say "OP", are you talking about the conversation above from many years back? PS - there's nothing at all wrong with sound stored in digital form, per se. Most modern musical sound recordings are stored in that way. But at the recording studio level, the sound is lossless and is at VERY high bitrates and VERY high sample rates, much higher in both regards than anything available or playable at a consumer level. Playback of such recordings over appropriate equipment sounds nearly exactly the same as the sound was live.

My living room TV is an 18yo plasma that doesn't have a tuner (or an HDMI jack). It has component, composite, and PC/VGA. I have a VGA cable on it so I could connect a computer and watch YouTube (or Netflix or any streaming service that can feed through a computer) but I never do that. My previous DVD player had Netflix, Pandora, Blockbuster (which was eliminated by one of the firmware updates), and something else I don't recall. I used it often for Netflix but had to replace it last year because Netflix changed their network protocols and the firmware on it was no longer supported for updates. Component outputs have pretty much been eliminated from DVD players in favor of HDMI so I had to get a converter box. I am NOT going to dump the plasma (for which I paid $7,000) until it goes kablooey, never any trouble with it thus far and the picture still is fine. Of course, an embedded YouTube app on a DVD player or smart TV can't take an adblocker that's coded for PC browsers so ads come through on YouTube via the new player but I don't find that to be a problem in the instances that I use it for such. The YouTube app on it pics up my search history and recommendations based on such from the activity on the PC. The Netflix app on the new DVD player is much nicer than what was on the old one. Only thing I don't like is that it skips the credits unless one selects a "Watch Credits" flag, and it allows only 5 seconds to do that. I don't subscribe to a cable or satellite TV service. I have an older Roku on a CRT TV in my bedroom but rarely use it.

I have never really got along with screens - I don't watch TV. I have relied on books when I want information or entertainment. Back when I was a new gardener, I subscribed to a couple of magazines but quickly concluded that there was always an agenda (usually to sell stuff) and I was even more irritated by the glossy perfection of featured gardens (which I certainly didn't recognise)...but mostly, the tedious predictability of continually catering to garden novices. I do find the internet has value but in general, there is an emphasis on branding, personalities, aspirational BS. I find myself looking at short videos such as 'how to light a Tilley lamp', 'how to do German short rows', 'how to sharpen a chainsaw' but have had very little compulsion to watch TV gardening. Whilst Mr.primula was waiting for a sports channel, one of those garden makeover programmes was playing in the background.. ('Love your garden', I think) .I was dismayed and offended by the whole concept - spend hundreds (thousands) of £££ to make a garden in 24 hours. Rubbish. Not gardening, just shopping. Presided over by grinning nitwits. There is nothing of interest to me. And, afaics, this is amplified on YouTube and subscription social media. So, apart from other gardeners, books (especially plant monographs) are still my main source of information... but again, you have to be prepared to trawl through a lot of utter rubbish but these are usually clearly signalled: written (ahem) by celebrities, heavy on illustration, light on text,

I finally watched part of the video. TBH I am not much for youtube/videos. The house is lovely but a bit more "stuff" than I would like. I found her voice pleasant but I do agree the cup was a bit distracting. Not wearing shoes didn't bother me a bit, as I never have shoes on in the house. It just made her comfortable to me. Yes, cozy and casual, which is what I like. Two things stood out for me - I have a wicker chair in the basement that came from my dad's family. It probably needs to be painted (which is fine as the dark green really doesn't go in our home), but honestly, I can't think of anywhere I can use it! I need to find a place. I have very little from my dad's family. The other item is the mantel clock, which I also have, and is also from my dad's family! I can't find it!!! I had it in a closet and several months ago noticed it wasn't there. I've obviously stored it somewhere. I have a cedar chest and a leather trunk that I need to see if it might be there. I should be using it.
