I posted a (at least temporary) workaround for Firefox users here: https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/5343325/use-alt-f4-to-close-all-the-windows#n=6  The gist of it:  about:config?filter=browser.link.open_newwindow - Set browser.link.open_newwindow to one - Set browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to zero  Info obtained from: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/970999  It's possible you'll find changing the settings affects behavior on other sites and you'll not like it but it's every bit as easy to change them back. (Just right-click the preferences and select "reset". Even better than browser specific workarounds would be if/when Houzz fixes it... but in the meantime, one does what one has to do. :-) BTW, "alt F4" does not work for me. It closes every tab including the very last tab so Firefox closes down completely. Apparently it works for some though.

I seldom use Chrome (except here at work), but at home, facebook will not work well on Firefox any more, and so I have to use Chrome. However, when using Chrome at work, it changes my default search engine to "MyWay" or something like that, and I have to type google in the address bar, even though that is my home page. At home I have Windows 10, and at work I am using the ancient Windows XP! Some people at work have upgraded to Windows 7, but my computer here is too old for that upgrade. Since I'm part time, I guess they decided that I did not need it, but I do need a newer computer to run a newer version of AutoCAD. I installed AutoCAD12, but it is very slow, and so I generally go back to AutoCAD5 but cannot open files that others have saved in AC12. I keep my history in Chrome fairly clear all the time at work. I should probably clear my history in Firefox at home. This would have been a good topic to cross-post on the computer forum.

Thanks popmama! I could have sworn I was logged in with FF, but earlier I had to log in while using Chrome to read and post. Just now I clicked on the email notification of your post and it opened Firefox - now I can read the posts in FF. So indeed it must have been I was not logged in earlier! It shouldn't behave that way, but now that I now the "secret" I'll be able to use my usual browser.

RitaWeeda, You can set Firefox not to automatically install updates. Current versions ... Options \ General, scroll down to Firefox Updates section and select "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" It may be under a different menu structure if you're on an older version. It may still advise that an update is available but won't automatically install it. You can check manually check for updates by clicking on Help / About Firefox. It will check from there if any updates are available, advise you accordingly, and offer to fetch and install. I've been using Firefox since the 0.xx versions.
