Advice on starting over. computer info gone.

I have Win7 Pro on a PC that is 4 years old

I had trouble with several areas. One was Outlook and after doing a restore back I lost everything in Outlook when I did that. My Outlook Data file path was not right and I made a corrected path for Outlook. I took off old one first for the data files and lost the pst.. I didn't understand how to do it is the bottom line. Don't ask me to put it in chronological order I can't. This caused more problems. All my own fault.

Lost my mail, pics and documents and all contacts info. The libraries are full of empty files. There was an ongoing problem in libraries as I had duplicates of every document under My documents or Documents. When a tech fixed my computer he made up new titles for the document part of the library. I had tried to combine them and then delete one duplicate which I understand was a shortcut if that makes sense. Can't conceive tonight what this will do to me. I am compartmentalizing to cope. Yes, I had a mobile back up device that did not show up on the drive when I plugged it in. It is corrupt maybe.

Moving forward I need to change my email address to
gmail. I will need a very good calendar to keep copious notes as well as mail, of course.

How do I move from my Comcast provider's email address
to gmail account only? Can I disregard Comcast all together but for the bill I pay? I have an account on gmail but use only the mail.

I have a hard drive with many important devices on it that I don't understand. Do they move to the gmail under a C: drive.

I would like to get rid of Outlook mail and erase the remains of docs that are useless and pics that are only logos from programs.

Is this possible to explain to me?

Too many questions? I have one more: is it possible to move again to a restore point farther back in time?

Yes, one more thing. I have iPhone and iPad that are synced to Comcast as best as Comcast can do it. they are still in beta.I noticed on here that Outlook and Apple products are not discussed much on here.

This is as much damage as I can do in a life time.

No disrespect intended, but I get the impression that there is far too much going on here to try and solve it thru a computer help forum. I think you need a computer tutor. If there is no one available to sit with you and help, try asking at your local library. I don't see anything to be gained by using gmail instead of Outlook. If you're having difficulty using the computer, using a different email isn't going to change that.

You may find your Outlook ost and pst under C: Users\your id\App Data\Local\Microsoft\Outlook. I am using Windows 7 Pro and that is where my data is.

To import these files, you will need to add (for Outlook 2010) the import\Export wizard to your customized ribbon. Search Outlook help and maybe print the instructions to add the wizard.

A floppy. What's a floppy? I never bothered with floppy disks, as they have always been too unstable. Went from Zips to CD's. With CD's just costing pennies, there is no point in using anything else. Since my mom is basically starting out fresh, I was just going to find a computer with USB and ethernet ports. Do you know that the wire they now use to wire your house and phone jacks is the same cable as ethernet cat5 wire? That just tells me go with ethernet as much as possible. You can buy serial/parallel to USB or ethernet adapters. Hey Ki, if your printer is relatively new it should have both serial and ethernet or USB ports. First, I have to ask why starting over? What did you do before and why didn't it work? Second, have you read through all the FAQs here? They are linked near the top of the forum page and are pretty much step by step. Third, all the things on your list wouldn't be started at the same time and several of them are normally direct seeded, not started indoors - lettuce, corn, cucumber, both melons, peas. Although Butter Lettuce is a head lettuce so you can start it indoors if you wish. What specific "plant bulb"? What bulbs for the shop light? It will be real hard to fit all of those plants under one light. What size cups and how do you plan to use them? Small 3 oz work ok for germination. Also, to prevent thinning and transplanting, could I plant 1 seed per peat cell to delay transferring? Why avoid? Thinning is easy to do with snip scissors and some things - tomatoes and peppers - need to be transplanted at least once just to trigger feeder root development. All the others will benefit from a transplant. Need more info please. Dave PS: Skip the foil bowls. Not sure what you planned to use them for - water or germination - but anything plastic is better if using them for shallow germination. Got any yogurt cups or butter dishes? Hey Pattie Ann and Cynthia!! Good thing I get the notices when someone posts! One of our son inlaws has moved the majority of my hosta barrels (still planted--can you believe that!!) and many, many of the others in pots and bags to our new place--in a HUGE truck from where he works with an electric lift--thankfully! I already love the effect at the new place though I've done little more than plant 7 trees (in addition to the many 'maples' surrounding the place' and now I've purchased 7 Althea Lucy Rose of Sharon bushes and 3 Nikko Blue Hydrangea bushes (big ones). The bushes are yet to be planted, though!! We're still waiting to find a concrete guy to help us get started on transforming the 2 car garage into our bedroom and then build another garage on the end of the original! The prices we are getting are HORRENDOUS!! Praying for someone to be discovered who will do it for a more reasonable amount! We've built my 'grocery store' in the basement for food storage and several large shelving units to hold the many crates of things I'm bringing over! Meanwhile, there are still lots of hosta to be dug and divided to leave some here and take the larger portions with us! Hubby keeps telling me to take it all--and if I did there is still so much going on that the yard is very woodsy and you can hardly tell anything is taken. I will post pix someday, I'm sure! I just wish I had taken some 'before' pix of the new place sans the hosta barrels and pots!!! We come home late everyday and we collapse very soon after we get home. I get on the computer long enough to check the mail and do a little researching and maybe a short 'game' to relax and then off to bed! Thanks for asking Cynthia and thinking of me! Pataan--definitely remember that evening we were together at that place and Steve and I speak of it often! Talk about a potentially much worse situation after backing into that guys' bike----!!! Whew!!! I was anticipating a HUGE BIKER DUDE coming out and slamming Steve up against the van! LOL Not funny--really if it had turned out that way but I can laugh now that it didn't!!! hahahaha Oh, and Phil and his wife, Diane, stopped over in Dayton Tuesday evening (coming from N.C. to Michigan.) and we met them for dinner! we really enjoyed being with them again. if it is his regular pc it is windows 2000 I do believe. Shax can you get to safe mode at all? if so you can run malwarebytes in safe mode, it sounds like it could be something from that update that did not agree with your system. I just don't know much about windows 2000. You could try to get a linux live cd and stick it in the cd drive and see if it will boot to the live cd and using it you could at least see your windows partition and save your files. Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer Geek to Live: Rescue files with a boot CD oh yes you were using a registry cleaner??? hum well that could definitely cause some issues, do you happen to know if that one you used created a back up of your registry? Not that it will help very much if you can not get to boot.

Thanks pk, I got from landzdown a path from Corrine when I restored. It is different and it works too -If you call losing all data files working. The ports and menus are good.
I have used Outlook for years and it is not easy to set up and keep. The new one might be better -easier. It is wonderfully powerful until a virus hits. It gives up data easily.

Too many techs have played with my libraries and I have accepted today I will have to rebuild.. The empty libraries of work and life. My Pictures is under My documents. Yep. They are scattered but they are empty folders. Thanks for the wizard hint. Maybe someone will have an idea how to set it up libraries again. I never liked them-didn't need them.
Thanks again... not too many users on here who use Outlook. Comcast doesn't like it and the port numbers change w/o notice as you may have experienced.

Ellie, I do not use the libraries, I find things in there that I didn't put in there. It is unnecessary junk I have to wade through I have more control when I put the documents folder on the desk top.

I took the libraries off the task bar and went to start to find my documents folder and clicked on "show on desktop".

Have you searched for the *.pst files yet? You should find the empty ones that were recreated and the one that you've lost which will be a significantly larger size. When you do find it, you can either take note of where it is or simply copy it to the desktop so you can find it when you import it back in. It sounds like your data is scattered but not lost.

I use mine for work with an exchange server and it's probably easier to recover because my data is backed up on the server. I prefer gmail over my ISP mail,

I have found some 7 or 8 files. Some are losers but if I copy the others to the desktop then that would be a good start. I didn't know to try that.
