I would like to give this program a try, can someone provide me with a safe link to download from? Thanks to anyone.

I'd recommend this download from the well-respected Filehippo. Avoid Cnet .

Thank You Azinoh, shaboom, ravencajun, minnie and damccoy. Your information is very much appreciated. Minnie you asked me this question. not to steal the thread thirdfrt but what is your opinion on Bazooka? I've had that for centuries it seems TIA To be honest with you I am unfamiliar with the software Bazooka but, I did look it up to see what program you were talking about. I have never used Bazooka and so I am unable to give you an opinion on it. Sorry. Maybe there is someone here that is more knowledgeable about the program that can give you an opinion on it. not to steal the thread thirdfrt Minnie, I don't feel like you stole the thread at all, unfortunately I was not able to answer your question and anyone who is knowledgeable about Bazooka is more than welcome to answer your question on this thread, I don't mind at all. For those of you who mentioned Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Spyware Blaster, I have them on this OS. I have had Spyware Blaster for quite awhile now and I downloaded the other two last year. I am very pleased with these programs and appreciate the help that was given to me so that I could download them. I use to have AdAware when it was a good program and thought I would take the chance with the current AdAware and I have become very disappointed with it. You are right it is not the same and that is why I want to remove it. I have given my son the links for the programs that you have recomended and for the removal of AdAware. It just seemed odd that we were both experiencing the same problem with our firewalls and like I said that was the only thing that we had in common on our computers. My sister and Nephew both had problems and they uninstalled AdAware and their computers started working correctly. About Irfanview, I think I will remove the old one rather than write over it and start fresh. I don't need anymore conflicts. One last thing I downloaded Auslogics and was surprised how well it did. My computer was really starting to act up and at first I didn't think I was going to be able to run a check disk. I messed with it and finally got it to work and after I ran the check disk I used the Auslogics Disk Defrag and my computer came back to life so to speak. "Smiles" Well I think I have covered everything, again thanks to all who responded to this thread. You have been very helpful and I sure do appreciate the help. thirdfrt!!!

In Firefox, use Tools-Options-General to set the default download location. In Internet Explorer: Start -> RUN -> type regedit. Now the registry window opens. In that, click the HKEY_CURRENT_USER dropdown menu -> Software dropdown menu -> Microsoft dropdown menu. Now in that, highlight Internet Explorer. In Download Directory, change the default path of the download directory. (Just change the drive name.) If you're using another browser, you'll have to tell us which one. I prefer not to mess with editing the registry, but YMMV. I just make a sub-folder of C, such as c:\test1 and download everything there.

John, one thing. The purpose of thumbnails is to have a faster loading picture and give the viewers a 'sneak peek'. I make 2 separate pictures - one the full sized .jpg, and another one a thumbnail but much smaller - in the 5-10 k range. 2 separate pictures and if the big one is named (for ex.) hibiscus_yellow.jpg the thumbnail is named hibiscus_yellow_sm.jpg. I add the 'sm' to designate it is a smaller .jpg. Then you will get small, fast loading thumbnails linking to the better-quality, full sized .jpg.

When you want to download a program like this, that's what Google is for. If you type "Irfanview" into the search box, the first hit that comes up is Irfanview's home page, and the next download hits are for cnet, tucows, and filehippo which are all reliable sites. Google puts the most active hits at the top of the search page, so the likelihood that you will see some shady site showing up at the top of a search for any popular software is minuscule.

Azinoh, the link you provided is Irfanview, but they will send you to Cnet. I tried a couple of times to get it there and it was always sent to cnet.

There's no reason to fear CNET, it's a big for-real company owned by CBS.

Knowing that they're prone to bundle and include choices in their downloads (that their advertisers pay for) that you may not want, you just need to pay attention to where and what you click or agree to.

I wasn't in a hurry to get the next version (the changes usually have a minimal impact on my usage of the program), but since there seems to be so MUCH concern about CNET, I did get the file from CNET and did the install. After answering the standard questions about where and how to install, I was offered an install of Google Chrome. Since I did not want it, I had to UNCHECK the box. The install then continued with no problem. If you already have Google Chrome, you may or may not see this step...I don't know. If you already have Google Chrome and fail to UNCHECK the box, it could potentially wipe out your current install leaving you with no bookmarks and all the settings returned to the defaults. Again...I don't know and I'm not going to find out.

Anyone still having a cow about using CNET can use the link on the Irfanview page to OTHER DOWNLOAD SITES. I would expect the experience at these other sites would be exactly the same but I could be wrong so if you use them, you're on your own. I won't be using them and will have no comment on them.

If you decide to install the additional plugins, you MUST close Irfanview first. The install will stop until you close Irfanview.

Additionally, I went to the CNET site using Firefox with NoScript. This cuts down on the funny business that a lot of malicious sites throw at users with vulnerable browsers, particularly Internet Explorer. So if you go there with IE, I don't know what your experience will be. I can only tell you what my experience was.

That was it...no strain no pain.

I'm not a fan of CNet, but will use it if I have to. None of my systems have ever blown up as a result. As to the site itself, different strokes for different folks. I leave all the cows out on the range.

I do appreciate the mentality of MajorGeeks as they at times will pre-advise a specific download contains ancillary content.

Most of us here can use cnet without a problem because we know what to watch for, some do not. My Sis does not know much about the workings of a PC she mainly uses it for a word processor. When it stopped working she took it to someone to fix it and he cleaned off the junk like you get at cnet and it was fine.
