How does she do that? And I mean without an argument.

Cancel ...what???
Verizon phone service? Verizon FIOS? Verizon DSL?

They probably won't argue about it much as long as she is ready and willing to pay whatever amount they say she owes, including any early termination fee if she has made a long-term agreement of some sort.

You can bet that if she's in a contract, she will pay an early termination fee. Tell her to read her contract.

I'm NOT a computer guru, but I know that many websites can find out your city from your computer's ISP address (they are assigned geographically). I don't know how this could be done through email. However, websites gather a lot of information on you unless you take steps to prevent it. If you give any website your email address they can put it together with your city (from your ISP address). A lot of websites compile databases of these known valid email addresses and SELL them. If you also give them your name they may sell that along with your email and city, too. They may also sell anything else they can get about you - physical address, what products you look at and buy, and if you fill out those forms that ask your gender, age, income, etc., it will also be included. Building and selling extremely detailed databases on individuals is a huge industry. Each website has a privacy statement that is supposed to disclose exactly what information they collect and whether they sell it. (Of course, almost no one reads those.) Some websites are unethical and collect information without disclosure. Even ethical websites that don't sell user information can have their data stolen by hackers from the outside or by an employee looking to make some extra cash. Most consumer databases are legally used by advertisers, but cyber-criminals buy/steal them, too. So, most likely this spammer is using a program to spam everyone on a list - probably thousands of people. The spammers use personalization programs which generate form emails using the correct city for each email address. This accounts for statements that include the recipient's city, such as, "The mayor of Palm Beach gardens will cause you bodily harm if you don't respond within 48 hours." A computer security expert could tell us a lot of other ways that spammers, hackers, and criminals can get creepy amounts of information on us without our knowledge. The web is a scary place.

i too have verizon and have had for twelve years, i'm talking about any of the new phones you buy now. i don't have internet with mine but it's time to get a new phone and a lot of the ones now you have to get a data pkg ( internet) with. like the lg choc touch when it first came out a short time ago you didn't have to buy data but now if you want that phone buying the data pkg is a must. I have no complaints against verizon it's self just some of the way there doing things. my plan is a family plan ( 2 of us ) with unlimited text. But in order to get the the friends and family i would have to go to 1400 minutes. If you already have these phones your under the grandfather clause and don't have to buy the data but when it's time to renew your plan then you have to switch to data if it's one of those phones.

That's why I drop companies and services that are too complicated and that I have to struggle with to get a good rate. (Not to mention adequate customer service.) Life is too short to have to police everybody. If a company wants my business and my $$ they have to give good service and not have hugely complicated structures in which the customer is entered into a maze that keeps ever-spiraling upward. In a competitive economy, the smart companies will realize this. Even land phone companies, which were once monopolies, are no longer able to dictate because we are developing alternative choices all the time. I have Verizon as my land phone and received (and am still receiving) a ton of ads to use their DSL internet. So I gave it a try. First they brought used and faulty equipment, then I could not reach them for customer service. Every night for two weeks we were on the phone, first holding a half hour or more just to get customer service. Throughout this time, the recording continually told us to contact them by internet - but we never could get ON their internet. Then finally we were connected to people in India who were not really able to help. After two weeks, I finally cancelled the service - and got a whopping bill for "terminating my service early". Uh huh, we never once GOT any service. That was more than a year ago and the bill has still is in dispute. So my point is, no, I don't have time to deal with companies like this. Maybe they do fine in an area of the country that are less populated, but my experience and that of several people I know, has not been one that would lead us to continued use of this company.

Yes -- the one member of the group who is consistently unreliable always just brushes it off."Oh well, ha ha." Another time we saved a seat for her at the movies, telling several people the seat was taken. She never showed up! I found out why later. Three of us qualify for senior citizen tkts.I bought them on line ahead. In order to buy one more ticket at the regular price I would have to go through the whole rigamarole (cc number, etc) a second time. I said please just buy your ticket when you arrive and we will save your seat. Well, she was miffed that I had not bought her ticket so she just didn't show up! She does have a problem with anger and depression. She was divorced long ago, never met anyone else despite trying and is sad that she has no children or grandchildren, as well as being stuck in a dead end (but well-paying) job. I feel bad for her but it wasn;t my fault and there isn't a darn thing I can do about it, so don't take it out on me!

Just found this post. Our son has to move and has 4 months left on his Verizon contract for Fios (Triple Play). He is moving to a new apartment which already has Comcast. Does anyone know if you still have to pay termination fee if you don't live at the place anymore?

I would think a call to Verizon would give you the correct info on what happens if you move before the contract is up. Verizon has tons of forums for everything on their site with other users helping. Maybe if you explain the situation Verizon would work with you. Mary

I don't know why people sign all of these contracts. I have dealt with two cable companies and ATT, and never had to sign a contract. I would not do business with any server who wanted a contract. My neighbor has a contract with dish and her tv reception has never been any good and she finally paid out of it and signed another contract with someone else.

Because if you want the triple play deal you have to sign for a year or what ever to get it for $99 or that's what is was at one time here in the adds all the time. I have time warner cable and internet, no contract needed and don't have a home phone and even if I did take their phone no contract to sign for their triple play deal. Mary

Cox bundles here, but still no contract as far as I know, it has a cheaper monthly rate when you bundle. I went back to a land line phone and lucked out with a 2 year promotion of $9 a month for their best phone service and no contract.
