Even the correct cartridges are giving the error message "unsupported" cartridge". I had to move away from cartridge type printers. As far as a solution I don't have one for you. You could Google---> using an "unsupported" cartridge dell

Removed it, shook it, put it back... same problem I know this has something to do with the green roller (I guess that's the "drum"). If I had to guess, I'd say that as the paper is going past the roller, some times it gets too much toner (dark line across the page) and some spots get not enough toner (letters are readable, but sometimes very faded). Whichever "defect" is taking place at the time, it goes straight across the page horizontally.
