Anyone else having a problem with Avast?

My free avast program said that my year was up, although I don't think that is correct but anyway I downloaded the new version for 2013 on the 27th. This morning my computer would not boot up and there was some kind of a message but I didn't see it in time so I don't know what it said. I believe it was saying that something was missing. I was able to do a restore point, which was prior to the installation of the Avast, then I re-installed it. I checked my e-mail, logged off and shortly thereafter I needed back on and almost the same thing happened...only I didn't get that same message, it went straight into needing to do a repair or a restore. I did the restore again and then I shut it down as I had to go run some errands. Now I'm doing the installation again; am I wrong in being suspicious of the Avast? I don't see any other posting regarding this kind of a problem.
I have the Avast and Spywareblaster and I thought that I was protected. Any recommendations?

I use Avast and have had no problems. I have the latest version, and it does nag you to upgrade to pro by popup messages indicating that you will not longer get updates, but this is only if you have opted for the trial version of Pro. I just ignored these popups and regularly get the updates for my free version. Sorry I cannot help you, but I don't believe Avast is the reason your computer would not boot up.

I've had to reinstall Avast 3 times in 3 days, but I think it's a SuperAntiSpyware problem. Every time I scan with SAS, it finds 2 or 3 "Trojans", all with an Avast tag, which I delete. But that also seems to remove Avast from my machine. I then have to uninstall Avast remnants in Safe Mode and reinstall it.

The SAS forums report it as a false positive that others are finding.

Are you using SAS?

I'm adding to this thread because it seems like many folks who are posting comments here don't have a thorough background in the toxicity of a wide variety of home remodeling materials. Unless you buy your flooring (wood, bamboo, cork, etc.) from a well-known, long-running green housing material distributor, it is likely that your flooring is filled with toxic glues, sealers, and other chemicals that produce VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Bamboo in particular has a lot of glue because bamboo stalks are so thin (look at a bamboo cutting board to fully appreciate how much glue is needed). I have a MPH degree (Master of Public Health) and one of my areas of expertise is environmental health. I'm currently renovating a new condo apartment and for every material, I had to buy it from a specialty distributor that carefully vetted their product portfolio. The benefit of buying from green supply companies -- living in a healthy home. The challenge of purchasing green, healthy building materials -- cost. Green materials are more expensive. But, if you add up all the costs related to adverse health reactions and getting medical treatment to address them...then cheaper, less healthy building materials aren't so cheap, are they? A good place to start is Green Building Supply (based in Illinois, they have a great website), which ships all over the U.S. I bought cork flooring from them, they're great. Can't recommend them enough. They carry a wide array of building materials including safe paints, safe caulks and sealers, safe flooring, etc. If you want to get advice before a purchase, check out the website, 'My Chemical Free House.' Heres what I am doing I removed my deck , you need a rubber bungie strap ,2 eyebolts with locknuts and washers, now with the dek off of the mower remove the blade break spring, next ensure the blade belt control lever swings freely,now insert one end of the bungie strap into the hole on the blade control lever(where the pto spring goes) now stretching the bungie cord (yes the blade control lever will engage) find a path clear of any moving belts ,pullys ect to the outside of the deck . Now find a flat spot and drill a hole for one of the eyebolts and install the eyebolt,now remove the S hook from the bungie cord and push the bungie cord through the eyebolt(again ensure that you have a clear path nothing will touch the bungie strap when the blades are turning) now find a spot on the foot rest (clear under and on top ) install the other eyebolt. now put the s hook back on the free end of the bungie cord and install the blade brake spring. Now if you hook the bungie cord to the eyebolt on the footrest the blades should activate and when you unhook the bungie cord the blade brake will engage stopping the blades.

I don't have many clients who use induction cooktops or ranges nor do I recommend them very often. Seems to me that the more electronic/computerized appliances become, the more apt they are to go awry. Getting to the point where we'll need Geek Squad IT support for our kitchens and that is not a happy thought! But to answer your question, you basically have two options: Get Wolf to refund your money and buy a different model from a different manufacturer, or ask Wolf to exchange it for a gas or electric model. If you bought this unit via a reputable appliance dealer, enlist your salesperson to help you navigate this situation. They certainly don't want to risk the chance of bad Yelp reviews or miss the opportunity for you to be a repeat customer. Oh, and one other thought: if you happen to have purchased this item with a credit card, the credit card companies sometimes have purchase protection services. If the product is unsatisfactory, you might be able to get some or all of your money back.

Yes, this is from a brand new Firefox installation (83.0): The only thing I did, after opening it up and getting "Welcome to Firefox" page was go to https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions and click sign in. No adblocker, no extensions of any kind. A week or so ago I logged out to do a test and had problems getting logged back in on the gardenweb side. I was able to log into the houzz side. The only way I got back in was by copy cookies from another machine. Logging into a Windows machine on which I had been logged into gardenweb, I found I was no longer logged it and couldn't get back in. I don't use Windows much so gave up. A few days later I started Windows up to discover I was suddenly logged in without doing anything. I think it's because the techs are trying to juggle two domains, two sets of content pages, two sets of style sheets, one (or two?) user databases, and... whatever else. Personally, for now I wouldn't log out once you get logged in. (clearing cookies also logs you out)

No, I have Spywareblaster. I've not had any trojan trouble. I won't know til tomorrow probably if this newest download is gonna work.

I don't use avast anymore because it wouldn't let me play games. Said there were Trojans or something in them. I have been using MS Security Essentials since I dropped avast and no more problems.

I had the exact same problem when I renewed my Avast subscription 3 days ago. It says "Missing runtime error" Or something like that.
Went to Staples and they messed with it for over an hour and couldn't fix it.
Finally took it to a friend who is a computer geek and as soon as I told him about installing the Avast, he knew what it was. It has something to do with the Firewall of the new Avast. He had to reset it to allow things to work.

I know nothing about computers but maybe that's enough info to help you.

Ever since I downloaded the new version my computer takes 'forever' to start up & to load anything. I've run Mallware, done disk clean up, etc...I'm thinking about going to another antivirus program. Very frustrating - I always liked AVAST before this.

That was the way I felt and I went to MS Security Essentials and have had no problem of any kind. Someone in here said it's an install and forget it. I had to reset my scan times because I turn my PC off at night.
