AVG question

I got a message that AVG will no longer be doing auto up dates. They want me to buy. Now what? I hate Norton,and dont know what else is ok. AVG seems expensive.

How did you get the message? Were you installing AVG or was this a separate email?

They have stopped the free AVG anti spyware and the free AVG anti rootkit. Is is possible your info is for one of these 2 programs? These are now bundled with a for a fee package.

It was a seperate message,,,a pop up I think, not an e mail.All I have is the anti virus,and it said up dates would no longer be available after a certain date.

I had the same message, but reopened the AVG program and ran update again (10:28am EDT) and everything ran smoothly. If it was an AVG problem I think they fixed it.

Thanks so much for the quick reply, zep. I didn't realize that that toolbar was in my Add-ons list. I disabled it there, and when I restarted Firefox, the toolbar was gone. Thanks again. Dee

AVG version 8 is out and they will stop supporting your previous version. Download the free version of ver. 8 from one of the links on this page.

An interesting aside for anyone who thinks AVG is not good enough or popular. The Majorgeeks link Bob provided shows they alone have had 2.5 million downloads of version 8 just since April 24th. Tends to give a person confidence.

What version do you currently have?

My v7.5.524 is the prior version and still updates without any notification as you have reported.

I just saw on the File Hippo portal for AVG 8 that it is a combined AV and spyware application with a combined engine.

I had a pop-up yesterday that said support for version 7.5.524 would be discontinued - I believe it said in July but can't be sure, so I went ahead and downloaded version 8.0.

I haven't gotten notification yet, but will DL when I do. I really like AVG because it works well and updates are quick an easy, and most important it doesn't clog my computer and slow it down.

I hate Norton too, Caroline, and McCaffee was no better. They seemed so invasive they might as well have been viruses themselves. Sandy

I got the pop-up a couple of times now, and am about to install the AVG 8. Just curious, do most of you uninstall the old version first, then install the new one; or do you install the new one over the old one? Thanks.

When I installed version 8 it said it would uninstall the old version as part of the process, or you can uninstall the old first.
