I think if I can get the basic idea down I can go to BB and they have a Samsung guy there all the time. We're also going to take an I-pad class, so I can do it from my new I-pad mini. Getting closer rhizo-the one that still (or again) lives with us knows the basics (texting, facebook, photos etc). The other one I don't see much and is always busy when she's around!

Well why not use an sd card ,load it from your pc with the books insert card into sd slot in tablet then just access them from the card this saves room on the device. It is how I do it . Honestly with all the tablets I have I have never used the cable to connect to pc, not necessary. Another option is to simply email the epub files to her email she accesses from the tablet and then download it to the tablet . Thengo to downloads folder in the file manager and import it to aldiko or what ever reader app you use. But seriously the sdcard is the way to go, you can put a ton of books as well as music and photos on it too. Leaving that stuff on the card saves all the room on the tablets internal memory from filling up . You need to know if it takes a full size or microSD card, and most can take up to 32GB but you can get much smaller,and the prices are low on them. For using the cable Ithink you have to specify it in settings for that use I will check I don't use it so I don't recall.

I don't have a tablet, but I luuuvvv my iPod 4. It does everything a tablet would. It uses the iTunes format, but I'm sure the other devices have the same Apps. I do have the Kindle App if I want to "read." It's not a full function Kindle, but I do have 1,200+ print books in it, right in my iPod. 1,195 of them were free! I am nearly always listening to audiobooks. I tuck the iPod in the strap of my running bra; it stays in place and I don't even have to wear earbuds to hear it clearly. While I'm doing my mindless work of laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. I'm being entertained. The audio book is the foreground and the daily grind becomes the background "noise." I know my suggestion isn't per the parameters you said you wanted, but I just wanted to say that my niece and nephew, who are about that age, have the 7" Kindle Fire tablets and love them. I know they aren't as trendy or fancy as the 10" Apple ones, but they love them. You can buy a new HDX 7" for under $200 and the 8.9 inch is under $400. My experience with tablets is limited to the Nexus 7, but I got it for free, so I have no idea how much it costs. I do think it's good and has handled anything I've thrown at it. I've treated it as a laptop, so it's had a dozen or more internet tabs up, taken pictures, and had a couple of games up, all at the same time and have had no issues with lag time or other problems. Not that this really makes a difference, but when I was deciding between getting a Fire and Paperwhite from amazon, I bought both to play with. I opted for the paperwhite, because of my needs and dealing with amazon was so easy. They even said I could keep the charger I ordered for the Fire, but gave me my money back for it.
