Windows 8.1 upgrade causing freeze

Hi, Since upgrading a new Windows 8 computer to Windows 8.1, the computer is freezing at least a couple of times per day. I have to power off the computer, and then turn it on again in order to get it 'unfrozen'. I don't know if you need any more details than that...

I guess this is a pretty common problem with 8.1? I've read about updating the drivers on the computer, but the majority of opinions seem to be that it's a fault of Windows 8.1 and not the person's computer. I was actually hesitant about upgrading to 8.1 since I've heard there are issues, but I waited awhile before doing the upgrade to see if the issues had been sorted out. Apparently they haven't. Thanks for any help/suggestions.
