Cannot Update Malwarebytes

There is a newer Malwarebytes program. Each time I try to install it, an error message shows that says the program has been corrupted, uninstall it, and try again, which I have tried to do, both from its own uninstall button and from the Add and Remove programs. Each time a message pops up saying files are missing. Any suggestions as to what I might do?

I don't know what Malwarebytes is, but it doesn't sound like anything I'd want on my computer.

If it's anti-virus, you should know that most of the commercially available software is worthless. Use something like AVG free for peace of mind. For real security, consider a linux operating system.

Even though Malwarebytes is a popular anti-malware program, there have been some problems with the most recent new version. I would go directly to their forum and ask for assistance.

Ok this is simple now. Just use Google and type edit registry and millions of hits appear. Look through the first few and you will find many tutorials with good graphics showing step by step. You are nervous and rightly so because of all the warnings about messing up a registry. HOWEVER, this is nothing more than making a correction to a spelling error if you look at it that way. First time just go into the registry working down to the needed page. Once there you can walk away and grab a coffee if you feel stress, or you can make the simple correction to the one entry in question. Those of us who help others always need to stress the importance of caution in the registry because of those who are so impetuous. my ex son in law is a good example, he goes into a computer like a bull in a china shop. Luckily I do not have to clean up behind him anymore :) Now I have learned how to put stuff into a flash drive and save my files. Why? You are going to back up the registry as a precaution, nothing more. To save your work, assuming it is stored in My Documents. Insert the thumb drive, cancel the popup right click Start click Explore Now you see Windows Explorer opened Look near the top on the left side and right click on My Documnts click Properties in the pop up Look to see how large the My Documents folder is and if you have enough room on the thumb drive. We'll assume you have room. OK.... Click My Documents to highlight On the right side click the top item to highlight Hold down the Shift key and tap the End key now all the right side is highlighted right click anywhere on the highlighted data click Copy in the pop up Scroll down the left side now to find the thumb drive right click on it in the pop up click Paste and the contents are copied to your thumb drive - or any other drive you designate. Done! Simple huh?

Glad that it finally got its act together, Shax. Sometimes there's no apparent reason for why an app or program suddenly hiccups. I have found...over the years...that holidays are busy internet times often overloading the airways...that slow down certain processes...testing our patience. Perhaps that's what caused your update problem. If it repeats...run Chameleon. And/or take a look at your Event log to see if you can get a clue there as to what's causing the problem.

Usually it's a two step process - a file is downloaded to your PC, then it needs to be "run" If you're using Firefox, after the download, click on the downward pointing arrow at the upper right on the tool bar. Then you should see a file that ends in .exe. Click on that, that will install the product. If using Chrome, a bar appears on the bottom that shows the download's progress. When it's complete, click on the box for the file to run. Either way, the same. Where it downloads to, the desktop or a different folder, is of no consequence so long as you access it from the browser when the download shows as having finished.

Using a highly rated security program is a better approach and protection requires no user invention. By doing so, neither Super Anti Spyware nor Malwarebytes will likely be needed. It's not like having these run are essential or even needed for a properly protected machine. If you're not using a best in class program, uninstall what you have plus these two , pick just one of the top three rated programs on this list of independent test results shown in the link below, and be happy. "I don't know what Malwarebytes is..."

Oh dear. In PC Magazine, it actually rates higher than AVG.

Have you tried downloading it from the actual Malwarebytes site? If not, here's the site.

Try downloading it without removing the first corrupted version and see if that works. There was a replacement for the first program update [issued on 4-1-14] and according to my own download files, it was issued on 4-6-14. The actual build was 4-3-14. The latest version is 2.0.1.1004

If you have no luck with my advice...I strongly suggest that you contact Malwarebytes directly through their website. I can tell you from personal experience that they are wonderful people to do business with and always eager to assist.

I should add that I have the paid version of Malwarebytes but that shouldn't make any difference with their help. Many moons ago I started out with the free version and went on from there.

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried to download again, directly from their site--- same problem. I became a forum member, but cannot post a question (wahn!), but did some poking around and finally found MBAM-Clean, which did the trick. I have now successfully downloaded the new program.

BTW, it's a wonderful tool, along with AdwCleaner.

I've found that since I switched to a comprehensive, real-time security software suite, I've had no need for Malwarebytes.

It's been about 5 years since I started using one and stopped needing the other.
