hotmail account blocked by Microsoft

They said my account has been compromised. In order to

reccover it, I was asked certain questions I cannot

answer: 1. favorite food (can't recall what I said)

Contacts in Hotmail address book (have none)
Xbox live or Zune prepaid card # (have none).

Said it would take up to 24 hours to validate and they

would send email. BUT, how can I get into email if it is

blocked?

Is there a phone# available, so that I can speak with a

representative?

paleblue.... Your not the only one, I have been trying all day!

I mean come on, can you believe(Yahoo)they said this?

I think we just have to wait it out. They must be doing some new web design or something!

how were you notified of this? it sounds like it could be some type of scam did you answer any type of questions or give any info that they asked for? if not do not do that.

Andy, I think there are a few email services that operate the way I believe you'd like. Bluebottle.com is one. PrivacyHarbor.com is another. The latter has something they call "SnapGuard." When someone signs up for the service (which has free and premium options), ALL new main will end up in SnapGuard. The user chooses whether to accept or discard the individual emails or, thirdly, to mark them as Spam. Once you accept an email (address), that person's emails go directly into your inbox from then on. If you discard it, the individual email is discarded, but the next email from that person will again end up in SnapGuard until it (the person's email address) is either Accepted or marked as Spam. Once a message is marked Spam, that sender's emails are automatically sent to the spam folder and marked as 'read' so you will never be bothered with them again. And from Bluebottle's site: Bluebottle Spam-Free Email is easy to use. When Bluebottle receives a message from an email address or domain not on your "Allowed" list, it emails the sender a "verification request". This asks the sender to verify themselves by clicking on a link. Once verified, the system automatically adds the sender's email address to your "Allowed" list and the message is sent through. Future messages are automatically let through until you remove the senders email address from your "Allowed" list. These two services -- and there are surely others -- work by being suspicious of everyone's emails coming to you and only allowing through to your inbox the ones you specifically designate as safe. :-)

It could be legit IF the return address on the email is anyone@microsoft.com, but that can be faked too. If not, it's certainly not legit. If there's a link to click on, a file to download, or information requested in a reply, please do nothing. In any event, simply change your email password, delete this message and don't give it another thought.

just to help you realize how many of these fake Antivirus programs are around look at this blog which keeps tabs of them as they hit, and see how real they look. Please if any of you see these pop up on your computer do not click on anything!! instead do a control+alt+delete to get your task manager open and end task on your browser whether it be IE or firefox or what ever or just hit the shut down on the pc and restart it. If you did fall prey and gave them a credit card, immediately contact the credit bureaus and put a fraud alert on your card and notify the card company also, usually best to kill that card, that is after all what they are really after. the way these things work even hitting the x to close it will actually trigger the install of it. The scan they show that says you are infected is totally fake it is not real, it is not of your pc at all, everyone sees the same picture and that is what it really is, a picture. they are a bear to clean. Delilah - I have a bunch of email addresses for various purposes - outlook, gmail, yahoo and comcast. My primary email address that I use for people I know and important matters is comcast but I'm shifting some things to gmail. I use yahoo for anything online - anything I think will lead to a lot of advertising/SPAM. Outlook is relatively new since I switched to Office 365. I use it only for my local neighborhood activities and have a separate contact list in there. The rest of my contacts are in gmail. Ya, that shared email with spouse thing is very strange in my opinion. And for anyone in the market for a job - having an AOL email address is likely to make you the victim of age discrimination as soon as a prospective employer sees it and Yahoo is probably similar.

were you one of the ones notified about a breach in security at epilison from any places of business like your bank, target, etc? This sounds very much like something that is a result of this breach since it was email addresses that were stolen.
Was your password on your email account a real word? if so it would likely be hacked in seconds.
do not provide your password or any other info at all!!

always good to have a secondary email account where if you have problems like the 'compromised' notification.. you will get an email there that will prove you're you.

Yahoo in my experience, from dealing with others with that problems,, just seems to lock your account for one to three days.

Considering Yahoo's persistent avoidance of providing secure, full-session SSL to its users (and the added threat of the Firesheep program/add-on) I'm amazed that more people don't leave Yahoo for a provider that at least cares enough to provide better session security -- even Gmail and Hotmail have it !!
