Touchpad on Toshiba not working

I was using a wireless mouse and keypad when frustration got the better of me and I pitched both.

Now my touchpad on laptop is not working. I am able to use the laptop in safe mode but that is all.

It is:
Toshiba Satellite L655D-S5050
Norton AV

It appears that their is software on this laptop that supported the keypad and touchpad.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried going to Toshiba support ?
Drivers & Updates
Touchpad
Then download and install the most current driver ?

For less than $10, you can buy a mouse with a cord and solve the problem. Or get another wireless one if you're ok with spending more.

Jerry I bought an Acer convertible laptop/tablet and the finger control does not work well at all, it did a first but not now. I am off to buy a mouse today. I couldn't even find a way to turn it off without goggling. LOL I installed the classic shell so I could set it up and customize it . After I do that I am going to use the W 8 start screen and learn it. It is is quite a change working without a right click and I keep reaching for a mouse. I did Google a bit and found a way to right click, takes two hands. I haven't found a way to toggle between the shell and w 8 start page yet. Will work on that after I get a mouse.

It is just a way of saying it is going bad. For some reason like you and don said the key pad is not transmitting through the closed door. You can buy a new keypad or take a small gauge wire and cut and splice it into the end of the antenna on the opener and run the wire along the ceiling all the way to the front of the garage and see if it works then. Seems odd but for some reason when I install external recievers the remotes work fine and the keypad does not until this is done.

Well, it is not the toggling fn+f5, it has nothing to do with a wireless mouse. I have run my AV, checked to see if there was a conflict with any other program, there is not. Wen I start up regularly my mouse will not work, I can move the mouse around on the screen, but as far as clicking on anything, I can't. My laptop is a Toshiba L655D, I have not downloaded anything new prior to the mouse not working. I did d/l a driver for the touchpad from Toshiba's support site. The keyboard mouse/touchpad only works in SAFE MODE. And, I had a wireless mouse, I had changed the battery, checked for drivers, etc. In an act of frustration I threw the wireless mouse against the wall, that was the end of the wireless mouse. make sure your touch pad button is on ,,,just above the touchpad and run your finger downthe right side of the pad. You should see a round target on your screen indicating that your are scrolling. Not sure if this is what you are asking about.

Mikie,

Thanks for your response, I have d/l the most recent driver for the touchpad.

There must be a conflict between safe mode and running regular programs, I don't know where to look.

Any other suggestions?

Did the problem exist before the driver change?

Many advise against driver updates, there are risks and seldom benefits of doing so

My Lenovo now, and Toshiba's in the past, have had a couple of ways to disable the touchpad.

One is in the control panel mouse settings. Another was a key combo press.. Lenovo here is Fn+F6 to toggle the touchpad on / off.

If the touch pad is working in Safe Mode then a driver issue would not be the cause, and as you have indicated it's possible a 3ed party program is interfering. Norton Anti Virus does not run in safe mode and all of it's many drivers are not loaded in that mode. You could try from regular mode- disabling Norton and see, however this sometimes is not conclusive, because you are usually only disabling active scanning an a Norton driver or service is still causing issue. Norton's a constantly changing program with all it's up dates so it's alway's something to consider as with any Anti Virus when something works in safe Mode but not regular mode. One of the best ways to troubleshoot this issue is to use MSCONFIG, that's what that programs for and it may help to identify the issue, as described in the link provided.

What was the make of this 'wireless mouse and keypad' that you Uninstalled ?

Perhaps their website support pages has some special uninstall procedure listed. You can probably email them and they will probably know right away what the problem is and hopefully have a simple fix.
