Hi:

When searching for a file on my laptop I use "Start/Search programs and files " but my external hard drive is excluded from the search and I get "no items match your search"

The drive functions fine otherwise.

What, if anything,do I have to do to fix this?

Thank you

RE: ext hdd

Try right clicking Start
click Open Windows Explorer and a new window appears.

Look down the left side for your external drive, likely given E: as the letter assuming your DVD drive is D: (which will not show as you have no disk in the drive

Click on E: to view the contents on the right side of your screen
click the small triangle beside E: to create a drop down menu underneath of all folders on the drive
click any folder to view the content.

RE: ext hdd

I had no problem accessing folders to view content.
My problem was I couldn't use "Search files" to find a
file in an unknown folder.
I went to "Indexing Options" and added the ext hdd.
Now I can use "Search Files"

Thanks
