Every time I read a post detailing escapees, I wonder what it is I'm doing/not doing that causes my worms to stay in the bin. With the exception of that one time this summer I fried a bin in the back of my van, I've never had a problem with herd stampede. I monitor moisture and heat VERY carefully including leaving the lid off the bins at times. I don't use a light to keep them in. Although I pipe in nature sounds of birds chirping and chickens clucking, and have pictures of fish propped in full view on all sides of the bin, I'm not sure of any deterrent factor, but..... As a matter of fact, I believe allowing the worms the opportunity to leave is a bin-monitoring tool itself, although I understand your dilemma and would do the same thing in the same situation. Your description of the stinky, wet condition of the bin might indicate too much moisture, however, I've had some pretty stinky, icky bins and the worms didn't seem to mind (although I suspect they don't perform maximally in those conditions). Do your bins produce leachate? It is my personal opinion that worms don't need as much water as everyone thinks. I base that on observations of healthy, surviving worms in 35 gal plastic trash cans I use to store "finished" vermicompost in. After 6 months, moderate numbers of worms of all stages of maturity, and cocoons, are present in those moisture-deprived conditions. (Probably just enough moisture to enable the compost to "clump up" when squeezed) On last thing, recently I had a BSF larva infected bin I was maintaining, and experimenting with, and because of the larva escape probs, I placed the 18 gal bin into a 30 gal one with only the 4 vent holes underneath the upper rim of the bin (which I covered with window screen wire). The BSF would crawl out of the inner bin into the outer one. I would retrieve and remove them to the great outdoors. All creatures inside the inner bin did fine, and the bin contents didn't exhibit significant anaerobic symptoms, with less than maximum, "free-flow" type, ventilation. So, go figure. I am so upset by what I am reading and what I have experienced over the last 12 years .. I am in the process of two major kitchen remodels and have 6 more to complete before I have them all done. Based on what I am reading here and on the internet blogs, I have ended up unwilling to order ANY new appliances. Over the last 12 years the only things I have purchased that have had great customer service are my Jura Capressa coffee makers and my Tempurpedic mattressses. All other purchases have been major headaches or outright nightmares. I am at the point that buying anything at all literally makes me sick at my stomach (and this is not just because I am a guy who does not enjoy shoppping in general). I have noticed that I have become openly hostile to sales people in general. With very few exceptions, I have never met a "sales" person who had even the scant ethics of even a democrat politician. The fact that I am now expected to buy appliances from one of these ingenuine sociopathic sales types is so upsetting that I have my two kitchen remodels on hold. I have great inset all wood custom cabinets with great custom granite counters ... and no appliances. Friends of mine in CA hate their Miele, friends in Henderson Nevada hate their Subzero and Dacor, friends in NY hate their Monogram, friends in Naples Florida hate their AGA and Viking, friends in the Netherlands hate their Miele, friends in Carmel Indiana hate their Traulson and Miele, friends in Arizona hate their Kitchen Aid ... and it goes on and on with nightmare after nightmare of new appliances defective out-of-the-box, incompetent installers, unethical distributors, sales people that grab the big commissions and then can't even return follow up calls, manufacturers that don't honor their warranty committments or try to stong arm the very customers that their business should be treating with dignity and integrity. To add insult to injury, many regional better business bureaus rate these retailers and businesses A+. No wonder consumers have stopped purchasing ... it is not the recession that has stopped people from making major purchases, but, rather, the expectation that after-purchase headaches will take months and months to resolve with stress levels higher than paying for your childrens' college educations. Short of having an attorney produce a contract that the appliance supplier has to sign and be held to legally, does anyone out there have any other magic process. A process that assures the customer won't be setting themselves up for an extremely stressful experience with underpaid customer disservice departments trained by the Insurance claims industry to intimidate and wear down the customer to a point of having to just give up? signed - a potential appliance customer in limbo

My knowledge is limited so take the following with a grain of salt. I'm going to throw out some thoughts based on a hunch that could be wrong. Hopefully others will help direct the conversation. I think your issue is a router issue and not a Windows one. It's software question not a hardware one. Not all routers have the firmware to host a printer. Maybe the printer has it? I don't know for sure. If your router can handle the job, and if so it would need some installation steps and be unlikely to be plug and play, the printer becomes visible as a Network Printer to other PCs on the network. Just the same as if the printer were connected to a PC and you designate it as a Network Printer and not a Local Printer through the Printer Setup Wizard. The PC stations on a physical network need not be "networked" in a MS sharing system or group sense to use a Network Printer. If your connection (software setting wise) is effective, using the "Connect to Network Printer" option in the Printer Wizard on each PC will show this new printer as an option. Each PC may need to have printer drivers for it to work. A printer connected to a PC can always be shared, and the mix of Windows versions is a non-issue in my experience with the same setup. But, the PC the printer is connected to needs to be on for the printing to work. If it's off, the queue is held until it's turned on. Thoughts from others?

At the risk of sounding real dumb, what is the desktop tile??? Is a tile one of those squares that is displayed in a group after the PC boots up? With program names inside? Sometimes, when I booted up, a bunch of squares and rectangles appear together and they start programs when I touch them. They will have pgm names inside. I used to touch one that had IE inside but it was not an user friendly IE. I have not seen anything else with IE in it. But the squares with IE/etc no longer display any longer. I have no idea what I did but am now getting (when I boot up) a screen that looks like a desktop screen would look like in XP but with the PC Maker's Name (Toshiba) in the background and a handful of icons (Recycle Bin; Desktop Assist, etc). I think I ended here by touching one of the squares. But there is no (obvious) way to return back to the view that had all those squares. I tried touching from the left to the right and other combinations. No dice. Without the squares, I have not been able to get back into IE ever since (which is why I could not reply sooner); I am using another computer.
