This is very odd and just started happening the last couple of days..

First: I use Firefox with Adblock

Anyway, every once in a while when I come to a GW forum - mainly the Perennials Forum, a window opens to some Asian porn site. I have no idea if I'm clicking on something unknown or just scrolling over something unknown, I just have no idea what I'm doing that makes this window open. It doesn't happen on any other site I visit, just on GW forums. I can't give you any specifics about the porn site because I get out of it quickly.
Seriously - not my thing.

Is this happening to anyone else? Suggestions?

I don't visit the perennials forum, but I do occasionally visit other Garden Web forums, and I have never encountered anything such as you describe.

I don't visit the perennials forum either but saw nothing unusual during a couple test visits. Not even with Adblock Plus off and "Block Pop-up windows" unchecked.

For what it's worth, a virustotal url scan of the perennials forum index finds nothing: scan results

Someone else can tell you better than I, I'm just a user, but personally, while I were waiting, I'd probably scan with Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware Free.

Susie-Happy New Year to you. Hope we all have lots of great trades and fun in 2007. Earthly-The Eon markers are the metal ones that work so well for keeping the right names with your plants. They go deep into the soil and stay there, not much chance of being pushed out of the ground with the freezing and unthawing of the ground. I bought 750 last year and will need more for 2007 I'm sure. Yes do have the lasik eye surgery...it is wonderful...I take it for granted now but I love to wake up and be able to see the alarm clock, my cealing fan and all the things in the bedroom. I never had that luxury before the lasik. My Aunt had it done and she is in her late 70's and she loves it also. Contractors here have gotten greedy so they want paid by the hour and they take their sweet time doing the job. DH and myself both work so it's hard to know the hours they really work. I do know they even count their lunch time in as time worked. I have never worked for a Company that would pay you for lunch. I told DH he was in the wrong business. Remy-Nice gifts you received.I will keep you posted when the senior games begin. Oh I agree it is very sad when you see someones beloved garden unattended. Have you ever watched someones clothesline. You never have to go inside their home but you know they have a new baby because you see the little boy or girl clothes hanging out there. Then the kids clothes get bigger when they start school and so on and so on. Then when they are elderly they have just the man and womans clothes hanging out there. Then one day only the womans will be hanging there and eventually none will be hanging there. Then the cycle starts all over again if a young couple buys the home. I don't even know who lives in some of the homes I see on my way to work but if they hang out clothes I know alot about the family and the same thing with the flower or vegetable gardens. Alot of the younger generation don't have clothesline or gardens but I prefer to have both. Whew I'm sounding like Paul Harvey now...GOOD DAY Shirley

Never watched that show(and had no plans of doing so), but wish I did watch it before reading this thread as the surprise is kinda ruined now. :) I do not watch a lot of TV either although it is kind of ironic as I have been on TV and also had been approached to be co host of my own show. (Which I didn't get) When I had my interior design and general contracting business I was on a national network a few times and my work appeared on two national networks, as well Canada's largest home decor magazine. I was then approached by the talent scout the network uses to co host my own show. Despite all of this I have to come clean to Dee: my nick is TYguy not TVguy as you usually refer to me as. I just didn't want to correct you as I thought it would come off rude, which would be opposite of your posts. You are always very polite, non confrontational and usually helpful too. :) :) BTW...I am enjoying my Bosch washer and dryer so far which your post helped me decide to purchase.

Yes...I had trouble back in my earlier days on GW and despite my reporting the offender to Spike, the unsolicited, nasty ems and stalking persisted for a long time...even though the offender was banned from that particular forum. Thus, I gave up posting in the GW forum that I attended on a daily basis and permanently blocked my em address from all GW member contact. It was a rather unnerving experience. It spoiled my participation to the point that I left GW altogether for a few years. Today, I've found that if I'd like to privately communicate with a particular KT member they usually have published their em address and I use their contact info...making sure that I put the fact that I'm a KT member in the subject line of the email in the event that they may not want to make personal contact outside of the KT forum. Then, if they accept my em, they have my em address from my communication...and we can go forward from there. I'm pretty "seasoned" when it comes to computers so my experience was not from lack of computer knowledge/protocol. I later learned that the offender had a reputation for this type of behavior but that didn't lessen the bad taste the whole experience left in my mouth. Today I err on the side of caution. Anne

Thanks for the reply's.

As of today, the nice, Asian ladies asking me to chat with them have not reappeared ( I wonder what they could have told me about growing perennials??? I guess I'll never know. My loss - maybe.)
But when I went to the Perennials Forum a full screen appeared complete with music asking me to sign in and play the game "League of Angels". I've never played games on this computer, so that's a new one for me.

I guess some hardcore scanning is in order.

Yes snidely, the bareroot stuff does get a bit x-rated over there.
Along with the big seed pods and cross pollination and - well - you get the idea.

OK, I downloaded Malwarebytes , ran it and it found 3 items which I removed. Let's see if that makes a difference.

Sorry, I should have written down what it found, but I didn't, so I can't report back as to the results of the scan. Thanks though.

Kevin, Malwarebytes scans automatically create a log. Open Malwarebytes and click on the Logs tab to review.

Jane - What can I say???

OK, when I ran Malwarebytes the first time, it found 3 entries for "PUP.optional" which I deleted. The nice Asian ladies have not been back.

However, today I ran a full system scan with Malwarebytes and once again there were 2 entries for the "PUP.optional" thing. From the bit of Googling I've done, it doesn't look like this is a major thing, but I still wonder why this keeps reappearing. I'm sure I checked and deleted the problems correctly on Malwarebytes. It prompted me to restart my computer to make sure everything was gone.

You may be getting the malware from some else's posting. For example, if someone posts a link for "the site of the day", it may contain hidden malware if that individual is not fastidious about where they brouse.
