Transferring Kindle files.

I understand that there are sites that allow free downloads of Kindle ebooks. How does someone in possession of a mobi Kindle file even get it off the Kindle and then share it? I'm sure Amazon would cry foul.

I dont know kindle, but every portable devices that I have fooled with have had all of their their files accessable directly while attached to a computer... from myComputer explore.

Can simply copy/cut/paste/move... etc.

A basic Google search using the keywords "Kindle forum" (sans quotes) revealed many instances of Kindle forums, both Amazon based and independent, which may be a better place to research or ask your Kindle question. At those forums members' participation is dedicated to the unit, and they should be more prepared to answer any question pertaining to it.

Certainly Open Office is a viable alternative to Microsoft Office depending on your needs because the two platforms are not 100% compatible. Certainly you can try Open Office and see if it meets your needs. I don't know about Quicken but I would imagine there is some kind of "export" feature. Whether you use that in a newer version of Quicken or move on, is up to your. I hear good things about Mint (.com) but haven't used it personally. Microsoft has discontinued Money.

You can "export" your email addresses to a USB drive and "import" them on your new computer File->Export->Address Book->Text File-> using "Browse" find the location of your USB drive. Name your file and follow the steps in the wizard to finish. On your new computer go to File->Import and follow the steps to import the data from your USB drive You can do the same for exporting/importing your Internet Favorites. It is located under File->Export. Just follow the wizard. I have never had any luck moving the actual email files. I am sure there is a way - but every attempt I have made has failed. I know there was a software you could purchase to "back up" OE, and then restore it on a new machine. I didn't want to buy anything though. You could try forwarding the emails (from your old machine) that you want to keep to yourself - then retrieving them on the new machine.

Have you tried the kindle help forums on amazon? I help out over there but don't have a MAC so can't help you with that. If you click the contact us button over in that help forum you will get kindle customer service not just general amazon customer service. You should just be able to look on your kindle what ever model and if you don't have the latest software update it right on the kindle but it's been so long since I had an update to my first generation one I could be wrong but if your software is not up to date you should be getting a notice on the kindle itself to update so that's strange. Did you try clicking sync on the fire to see if the book then shows up? Sometimes I have found it takes more than a minute for the book to come through. What model fire do you have? Kindle and Amazon are fine with the use of Mobi files it is made to be able to use Mobi.

My family that have Kindles and use the kindle on their phones all use Mobi version back and forth.
Since I do not have a kindle I can not tell you exactly the steps but I am sure any of the Kindle forums would have that info.
