Thunderbird and Firefox under Windows 8?

I haven't looked real hard yet, just now seriously considering anew laptop with W8, but it appears that Thunderbird and Firefox do not yet operate under Windows 8. Would that be correct?

If true not good for my needs.

I have win8 and firefox newest version think its 19.01 ... works fine.

Thunderbird .. I'll go looking. I would think its ok too.

Is Thunderbird compatible with Windows 8?

Yes. Thunderbird works under Windows 8, just as it works under Windows 7.

Wake up, I and most religious groups of which I am not a member, have a right to express their views including support for a voter's proposition. As for Marriage, that "Term/Word" had a long standing definition, and it isn't any two or three or whatever can do whatever they want and call it Marriage. .If some what to do other than the traditional (long standing, how about a thousand years) meaning of the word Marriage, think up their own word. I don't lcare what they do. I am Married and I don't think I should have to explain what that means. I am not telling people what they can do I'm saying Marriage is already defined in practice and law. I am seeking an alternative to Mozilla due to that organization folding to those who would punish anyone who doesn't line up with their view, who, more than a few of us, believe the word Marriage is already in use and defined. Tax law and rights to inheritance and hospital visitor access, to mention a few, doesn't require the mutilation of the word Marriage.

Firefox uses a file called history.dat that is kept in your profiles folder to keep the history of webpages visited. I think this file (history.dat) is probably corrupt. It can be deleted and when firefox starts again it will make a new history.dat file. To fix the problem, here's what you need to do. 1. Go to start, run. 2. Copy/Paste the line below into the run box and click ok. %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ 3. A Windows Explorer window should open with a folder with a name consisting of 8 random letters and numbers followed by .default. 4. Double-click on this folder and you should see a whole bunch of files. Highlight the history.dat file. 5. Close Firefox because the file can't be deleted when firefox is open. 6. Right-Click on the history.dat file and select delete. 7. Close the Windows Explorer box. 8. Launch firefox. It should create a new history.dat and start putting/retaining the list of visited sites. Repost if you have any problems and/or if it works okay. HTH. Terry

yes all critical updates listed in the windows update list should be done, even for programs you do not use, if they are on the pc and have a hole in them which creates a vulnerbility it has to be patched or you are wide open to intrusion, makes no difference how often you use it. If you choose to not move up to IE8 and keep IE7 you still need to do any updates issued for that version of IE. this is why the secuina tool is so helpful to keep us updated on all the things we need to be updated on. Secunia Online Software Inspector be sure if it shows java or flash or adobe needs updating to do them they are huge risks for infections with out the latest updates. You should only have the latest versions on your pc, once you have the latest version you can go to add remove programs and remove the older versions to keep the pc safe.

Okay, using the Firefox "troubleshooter" I went to plug ins and set and changed "shock waver" from always on to ask. All seems much better - so far. Right now the CPU Utilization is so low the processor speed, a slow 1.4 Ghz is backing down to slower speeds to save power, this is a Laptop and does what it can to extend battery life even if the A/C is attached, or so it seems. I tried to view a video on Youtube and it asked me to enable Shock Wave, I did and the video play normally and the CUP utilization was still well below the old 90% level. This my be the culprit - I wonder what IE does about Shock Wave, I'll try to find out later. Another mystery: HOW DO I BOOT IN SAFE MODE in W8? Yes I know I'm shouting but that's how I feel about Microsoft at the moment, maybe a Mac is in my future, when I'm "rich and famous".

Thanks, this makes me wonder why I hear/read so much concern about the big differences between XP, Vista, W7 (which I consider to incremental changes) and W8. Seems that I can run Thunderbird and Firefox (like right now) and W8 will be behind the curtain just being a good operating system.

Maybe the difference comes in how one activates Mozilla applications.

Thanks, I'll continue to consider W8 laptops (but, still I would like to have W7).

I am at a loss on what one should consider as at least today in the world of CPUs.

Is the AMD A-Series Dual-Core A6-4400M 2.7 GHz reasonably current? I believe the i5 and i7 are the latest Intel and I think they both have more than two cores, does that matter, make a difference I'd ever notice.... considering my stated interest in email and browsing. The 2.7 GHz sounds good.
