Please help me with Firefox

I have a Dell Inspiron 660s w/windows 8. I was having some issues & called Dell for support. The issues I had did not involve my browser. I always use Firefox. Long story short..after more than an hour the tech said he was done..I tested several sites using it & it seemed fine. This was done online & he ran checks & changed some settings.
I turned computer off. Later when I went to use the computer all of the graphics were changed when I went online with Firefox. Every site I go into is displayed differently. The logos will not be there, the text is compressed into the center of the monitor & it does not fill the monitor screen. However, if I go onto IE all is displayed as normal.
I called Dell back & they said well that is a 'software' problem which I am not covered for & must pay $89 to fix it, even though it was fine before their tech 'fixed' my computer.
I am SO MAD!! Does anyone have any idea how I can resolve this on my own. Do you think if I delete Firefox & reinstall that it would help?? Please help me.

I would certainly start by removing Firefox and re-installing to see what difference it makes. Seems the tech may have changed settings only for Firefox and not the computer in general.

I had the same problem with Dell and desktop. Called them, spent way too long with them, said it was fixed, then like you something else went wrong--all under warranty,, and like you they refused to fix it said it would cost me 79.00. I refused to pay it and really got upset. All you can do is argue with them and demand they fix what ever they unfixed for you. My DH at that time finally fixed it, but it never was the same and I ended up throwing it away after the guarantee was out and I did let them know, I would never buy another Dell.. Good computer, but really bad service

marie- I have four browsers installed on my computer: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome. None of them interfere with one another, even when several of them are simultaneously open. I don't know why you are having some of the problems you describe, but you shouldn't be worrying about having to choose between Firefox and Internet Explorer. They are each discrete programs, just like Word or Notepad are discrete programs. Something else is going on here, or you have accidentally made some unintended changes to Internet Explorer, but it should have nothing to do with having two browsers installed.

agree that is not a problem with firefox but with the page you are trying to access, it is either having a problem at the moment or something on it was not done properly for it to be accessed by firefox. I see that happen quite a bit but other pages load just fine. Some webmasters still only write their pages specifically for IE and not for other browsers which is stupid because a large number of people use firefox and opera. It is their loss when some people can not access their site. There is an add-on for firefox called IEview you can choose to use the IEview on some sites that do not work well with firefox and might work with IE.

Pam: Ah, if only it were! *History* I get by clicking on the cat icon with the clock, and the history menu drops down on the *left* side of the screen. You can see where this one is, and I get this menu by clicking on the thing like double parentheses next to the star in the address window. Besides, as I said, I have had History turned off for a long time and that side bar is empty. The items in this menu happen to be mostly things I have only visited once or twice and are by no means representative of my browsing history. If they were, it might be of some use. Owbist: Thanks. I wasn't looking for speed or accessibility. I just don't like having something whose method of working and management I don't know. It bothers me! It even bothers me that I don't know its name, so I am hampered in looking for a solution. Linesman: Your message just came in. That seemed to do the trick, and I was thinking Yippee! But, alas, the sites didn't stay deleted. They disappeared when I highlighted them and clicked Delete, but the minute I clicked on the "parentheses" mark that brings up that menu, there they all were again. Closing and reopening FF didn't make a speck of difference. I have found that clicking on the star in the URL window adds a new site. So half of the mystery is solved, but the half that most interests me is the deleting part! LOL I think I'm going to have to uninstall and reinstall FF, but even that may not help.

We got it downloaded and he really likes the No Squint!! We chose a background colour, very cool! I'm trying to figure how to get his favourite sites onto the bookmark bar, for easy access. FF is a little different now, instead of clicking the Star and it going in the Bookmark bar, it goes into a little suitcase. I don't know how to get it onto the bar. So far I'm c/p the address which works, but that's not the right way, I'm sure.

I recently did something and got FF all goofed up.

I ended up deleting it off and then downloading and reinstalling. It now works just fine and my many bookmarks came back too.

I'd probably try a reset first: "Help->Troubleshooting Information->Reset Firefox"

If that didn't work and I did a full uninstall/reinstall, I'd check the box that says "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations" since any changes the Tech made were likely customizations. You'll lose your bookmarks though, so you might want to back them up first.

With the reset, you lose customizations, extensions, etc. but should retain bookmarks (and more).

I did a reset & it is pretty much back to normal. I'm pretty disgusted with Dell.
