New Network Found

Posted by sue_va (My Page) on

I did a search here for this topic, but with no results. I googled and it got rather complicated there.

I've gotten this in the past, but don't remember if I want to include the TRUSTED Zone.

Do I or not?

HP Media Center XP SP3.

Firefox default browser.

TIA

Sue

RE: New Network Found

I take this to mean that the "new network found" is not your own network. If that's the case, then allowing the connection means that someone else can connect to your network. Is that what you want? If no, then don't trust it.

RE: New Network Found

On the other hand, if you've just added some new electronics to your home that communicates wirelessly, then that's not a problem. Which is it?

RE: New Network Found

Is that a zone alarm pop up message?

 o
RE: New Network Found

azinoh, that is what it means.

Kudzu, nothing new unless uninstalling and reinstalling Bookworm counts.

Yes, this is a Zone Alarm message. I should have said that.

RE: New Network Found

You could be picking up a wireless connection that is being transmitted from the router of one of your neighbors. I have had a couple of those before. If it's that, it's probably not a threat, but you obviously don't want to add it.

RE: New Network Found

Does Zone alarm give any more detailed information about the New Network like below,

New Network Found

IP address: 192.168.5.0
Type: Private Network Detected
ZoneAlarm Security Suite has found a new connection between your computer and the Internet or another computer.

Like others have said unless it's your network you don't need to add it to the "Trusted Zone"

If you keep getting that pop up let us know.

Zep, I had a hard time trying to post this SS. Photobucket has made some not-so-helpful changes.

I couldn't include a message with it.

RE: New Network Found

I think it's a Zonealarm bug. See link below.

Here is a link that might be useful: New Network Found Bug

RE: New Network Found

I had the exact same thing pop up on my computer. Love it when they suggest that you might "migrate" from XP to Win 7 to solve this bug in ZA. LOL!

RE: New Network Found

Grandms, so what did you do? Did you accept the NEW network, or leave it with the Internet zone?

According to Marooma's link there will be a solution coming in 2011. Until then, what? I don't care to "migrate" either.

So frustrating!

RE: New Network Found

These are the only directions I found, does it work not sure. I have a short tolerance for those type of issues. If it were me I would get rid of Zone Alarm.

To configure ZoneAlarm to automatically add a new network when detected
so the pop-ups no longer occur, please perform the following steps.

1) Open ZoneAlarm and click on the Firewall panel on the left.
2) Click on the Main tab.
3) Click on the Advanced button.
4) Under the Network Settings, check either the Include networks in the
Trusted Zone upon detection radio button or the Exclude networks in the
Trusted Zone upon detection.
5) Click OK.

Notes

You cannot remove or block an active network connection. As long as your
subnet has already been detected, you should no longer receive network
detection popup alerts.

- Selecting Exclude networks from the Trusted Zone. Will always put new
detected networks in the Internet (UNtrusted) Zone.
- Selecting Include networks in the Trusted Zone. Will always put new
detected networks in the Trusted Zone.

That's from the Zone Alarm site.

Zep, Thanks for that info.

I've had ZA "forever." Which Firewall do you recommend?

I assume you can't get the pop up to go away. Even with the instructions I gave from the forum, Then I would suggest installing comodo fire wall. I am going to provide a link for that it's a very detailed link from another forum and shows you step by step instructions for installing comodo. It's a friend of mine that's giving the instructions.

Also here is a link to uninstall Zone Alarm might want to do that first:

Zone Alarm Removal Tool

Click on Zone Alarm Removal Tool above, then a little binary box will open. Click Save file and save it to the desktop, it will save as cpes_clean go to the desktop double click it, then choose run. That should remove ZA. Then install Comodo.

Here is a link that might be useful: Customized instructions for comodo very good ones at that.

RE: New Network Found

Zep, Sorry I haven't been back. Have had several interruptions and delays.

I followed your instructions just now, did a reboot, and so far the pop up is not showing up.

Fingers crossed. I hope I can keep Zone Alarm.

Thanks again.
