Probably not. It should have a new name show up in device manager.
Try it. make a restore point before you do and you're covered. Only thing I can think of is when you like it and uninstall the old... it might mess up the new install. But with a restore point... Youre covered :)
What did you do about the old adapter? I'm a little confused because you mention the old adapter reinstalling. If you haven't you should disconnect the old adapter or if it's internal, disable it in the BIOS.
I might also suggest temporarily turning off any security in your router and trying to connect. That will just eliminate on thing to worry about in your troubleshooting. You're not filtering by MAC address by any chance? The new card will have a different MAC address than the old one.
Why can't you use the quote function on this board? Well anyway ..

I had completely removed the old adapter and it's drivers.
After fighting with the new adapter all day .. I got disgusted and installed the old adapter and it's drivers.
That "Filtering with MAC address" is too confusing for me and I wouldn't know what to do to change it all anyway.
