Help with i-tunes & my own album tracks

I don't understand i-tunes all that well. I am aware that many or most people use it to purchase individual music selections that they then play on their computer/devices. However, I am currently just using it to collect and play my old cds and copied/cleaned up LPs and to eventually download (sync) individual tunes to an ipad and a cell phone. I have actually had some success syncing some music to the i-pad.

Generally I have been able to play albums or individual tracks as I choose from my pc. This includes bouncing from track to track within an album for curiosity or quality checks; but I have just run into an odd problem that I suspect is related to i-tunes attempting to give me a varied music selection. I was checking a particular cd and as I jumped from track to track, the played tracks would disappear from the album list. I restarted i-tunes several times and the tracks are still gone. I saw a 'reset playlist' setting that didn't recover the missing tracks. I just ran i-tunes to see if another cd or a copied LP list would be similarly lost, but it only seems to happen with the one cd. Any idea of what I might have set to hide or wipe out the tracks??

Just a question...

When you say "the played tracks", do you mean that those tracks successfully play (all the way through) before they disappear? Or does iTunes attempt to play the track, fail, and then remove the track?

If that's the case, then perhaps that "particular" CD just a little dirty, or scratched?

I don't use iTunes though, so don't know if that's the way it behaves. Sorry.

I wasn't clear enough. The tracks were all fine and would have played thru had I let them. However, I interrupted them by going to another track and then another after I listened enough to each one to satisfy my interest. While I was doing this, I soon realized that the tracks were disappearing as I clicked on the next selected track. This effect appeared to only happen with this album and in fact when I just now attempted to replicate more track loss, the remaining tracks would not disappear on this album either. Just before my initial post I had just checked that some random albums' tracks seemed to be complete and wouldn't disappear either. The lost tracks only occurred in one or two sessions with that one album.

There is an extra issue. I have several cd albums that are listed under 'various' because the lead singer shared singing with some of her well known singing friends. This album is one of those, BUT I haven't lost tracks from a couple other 'various' albums I just checked (and had similarly scanned). If anyone knows where 'various' tracks go if they loose their association, they could be there I suppose.

As usual, I hadn't thought to Google this issue until I posted. I found a 37 page active chat about this and similar track loss that began in 2009 and continues to the present. I suppose this could be a random general problem. I can always re-rip the cd but I was (and am) afraid that the problem will repeat. I am still wondering if I accidently clicked on some setting that hid the tracks so they wouldn't repeat and now should change a setting that will un-hide them.

I never heard of double ground bark. From the pictures it looks a lot like the planter mix I use as part of my potting soil recipes,except the planter mix is composted. The double ground might be too fine. You want the perlte and bark as close to the same size as possible.It doesn't pack together and leaves airspace for the roots. The bark doesn't really do anything other than suck up some nitrogen as it breaks down and airate the roots. Some articles I've read say that the breaking down of the bark after a couple years starts to become usable to the plant. Thats part of the reason some people like to use it for longer lasting mixes. There are other articles that say the opposite though. As a side note.Soils with as much wood products as I use Have to be lightly fertilised with a high nitrogen fertileser constantly to compensate for the uptake from the bark as it breaks down. I personally think the mixes I've been playing with seem better the second season. Maybe it takes that long for the nutrients to balance out or something. My tree habanero was in a 15-20 gal. container for about 6 yrs with no problems.I had to re pot it this year because there was only about 7 gal. of soil left in the container. When my containers get low on organics i just put in more peat and or planter mix and a little bark if it needs it in the old soil (usually several pots at a time). Growing in a mix that is mostly inorganic ingredians is almost like hydroponics. I like it because I can somewhat control whats going on with my plants. I would buy a couple pots worth of different ingrediants to see what works best in your climate and the way they grow. THANK YOU! This looks like something that would do it although I'm not understanding how the gadget plugs into the two ports at the back of the old Panasonic (perhaps it just needs another cord with the red and white plugs at each end). I also did more web searching and came up with the Ion u-Record Music Archiver at Think Geek I'm not sure how it works...as it too just seems to connect the computer with the old music outfit, but this one seems to need software installed and I'm wondering if it is for more complex stuff than I'm trying to do. Has anyone used this? As I said before, I'm not very computer savvy (I'm from the old LP era) and appreciate being able to do this without a lot of frills and hassles. I sympathize with your frustration. We have had a new lawn service every year. The last one moved to Tennessee during the winter without letting anyone know. The one the year before had a car accident and couldn't pull their trailer. We found out by tracking them down after they failed to show several times. Then there was the one that thought he could charge us for mowing in the winter when the lawn was dormant. This year I bought a self-propelled mower with front swivel wheels and am doing it myself. The mower will pay for itself in the first year. Cut height for grass depends on what you are growing. The St. Augustine in your yard is usually done at 2 to 4 inches. The Zyosa in my back yard is 1 1/2 to 2. I could just skip mowing the back if I set everything to 3". I also have an area over the septic that preferes to grow weeds, over grass. I have found that, if I cut it real low, it looks fairly decent without dousing it with weed killer. I have a lawn weed that grows low, stays green over summer, and is sorta springy under foot. I have no idea what it is, but I'll take it.

mikecowley- I disagree with the view that it isn't in Apple's interests to be helpful. My interpretation is that Apple is making it difficult for a person who can't prove that they don't have a stolen phone to get that phone activated. I prefer that position because it provides a strong disincentive to thieves, and that is in the best interests of customers as it provides all iPhone owners a lowered risk of theft and robbery. The OP's situation is unfortunate, because I believe her that it is a legitimately owned phone, but if Apple started making exceptions for all plausible stories then the value of their policy would be next to nil.

Well, I still don't know what I or i-tunes did to create the track manipulations I have described, but I have an update. I generally view my albums with the 'albums' setting in i-tunes. It generally shows a rectangular layout of albums (4 album covers wide) in artist (first name) alpha order. The missing tracks are from an album named 'Downtown Church' by Patty Griffin. I believe, but am not certain that the album was in the 'P' area But Just Now I see that I now have TWO copies of the album cover. One is in the 'p' area with an artist of Patty Griffin, and the other is under 'v' with an artist of 'various artists' . All of the tracks I briefly listened to, moved to the various artist album while the other tracks remained in the original album (ALL tracks, both albums, have multiple singers). I now have a Second Update. I played part of a track from the moved album just to be sure they played and to confirm they were the listened to tracks. Surprise, that track immediately disappeared and I found it back in the original Patty Griffin album!!! I just checked if any other albums listed under 'various' or 'various artists' also had duplicates and missing tracks, but they didn't.

There are forums for everything and most certainly the ones for Apple "products" are numerous and enormous. Go to the right Apple support community and you'll find or be flooded with answers to your questions.

While many Apple users will respond to "how do you..." questions by saying "you just do it", I find much of Apple's stuff VERY unintuitive and difficult to use. I know I'm in the minority, most people indeed simply "just do it".
