LapLink - Does it really work?

I find myself needing to upgrade my hardware and am considering using LapLink to transfer software and files.
Does anyone have any experience with it or other recommendations? Will I need to dig out the original product keys? I'm currently running XP, going to 8.1, and heavily using Office and Quickbooks as well as some Computer Aided Drafting software.

I would personally suggest just getting an external hardrive... Such as one I linked below (you don't have get that particular model, it is just something I have and knows works). The reason I suggest this is because unlike with laplink (assuming it is legit, I dunno if it is) you can reuse an external hardrive. Furthermore, the one I linked you can really travel with it and not worry about sending files between laptop/mobile deveices and your pc as it generates its own wireless signal.

The only real con of an external hard drive is a) they fail after some time and b) you have to drag files onto it.

I want to move programs and files from my old computer to a new one. LapLink is a program that comes with a cable to connect the two computers and claims to do this. My question is: does it do as advertised?

The shade mix is a mix of fine leaf fescues that you could maybe get away with mowing once a month and not have large amounts of clippings. The fine fescues will just lay over once they get to a certain height. This a typical mix for a highly shaded yard in the northeast. The sun mix is mainly kentucky bluegrass and fine fescues by weight, with perennial ryegrass and tall fescue thrown in for quicker cover. This is also a typical mix for the northeast. I think in the spring and the fall you will have to mow once a week if you don't want a yard full of clippings. The kbg and fine fescue will go dormant, provided you don't irrigate or get any significant rain fall, so you might be able to only once every three weeks. If you read Pearl's instructions for their low maintenance lawn it includes surface raking?, keep pH between 6 and 7, aerate, fertilize, water 1" per week, mow, overseed, pre emergent herbicide, and dethatch. Sounds like typical maintenance to me. This seed is also extremely expensive almost twice as much as similar products from Scotts and Pennington.

Does dry shampoo really work?

I've used both PSSSSSST and Tresseme dry shampoos in a pinch. They work "okay" to remove excess oil from your hair, but there is nothing like that "fresh-washed" feeling from a regular shampoo. Once when we were having our bathroom re-modeled,and our bathroom was under construction for 3 weeks, I went to a local beauty shop for a shampoo only. It was worth the cost (not much).And how did I shower? I didn't, I used baby wipes from the drug store.

SisterSunnie is correct. I was just going to post that hubby painted the panels on our pantry door with liquid chalk board paint over a decade ago and it's holding up perfectly. About five years ago I painted a faux grained bookshelf with satin black paint. I realized it looked just like the chalk board paint so I tested and yes, you can use it the same as chalkboard paint. It doesn't erase as easily as the real chalk paint, but a damp cloth worked great on it.

Glad other folks don't go strictly by the "soil worked" statement. zeedman, I'm actually over 100 miles south of you. I'm pretty close to the bottom of Lake Michigan- I probably should have said so in my first post. So I'm not sure if that will make a difference or not with timing. And not anything to do with the conversation at hand, but I miss camping at High Cliff. forgotten- I didn't realize I could sprout my peas. I figured since they aren't supposed to like transplanting, that meant I couldn't sprout them either. I am so going to do this with some of my peas this year. How long do they take to sprout? I would be doing them in my 65 degreeish dining room where I have south facing windows for a little extra warm if the sun ever comes out again, lol. farmerdill- I didn't realize there were smooth and wrinkley peas. All of mine look kind of smooth like the Alaskas, so I think maybe I'm good with adverse conditions peas. My beds are pretty good draining- a mix of horse compost, leaves and grass clippings, and sandy loam that gets stirred up every spring, and put to bed with another layer of leaves in the fall. Some are raised beds, and others are lasagne beds, kind of like raised beds without the outside box because I heap them in deep.

You already have Easy File Transfer on your new computer. Follow the easy tutorial from Bleepingcomputer, works great and transfers everything.

Most programs will need to be installed fresh in the win8.. can't simply transfer a program especially things like Office from an old version to new.

Maybe you have some simple single executable programs that could be moved, but I seriously doubt laplink will do any installs.

You can move files surely, but you can move them maybe for less expense on a simple usb memory stick or just stick your old hard drive into a portable hd usb enclosure for $20 or so and have them avail as needed. .....
.... You might also want to just open yourself a Hotmail or outlook.com account and upload your files into OneDrive. Then when you go online win8.1 it comes with OneDrive as default so it will be just simple moving some files around - like magic you'll have your old files on the new computer.
