Truth or Fiction? HTML virus on Gardenweb network?

Does anyone know if there is any truth to this post that appeared on the seed exchange forum

Warning! There is an HTML script virus that has been introduced to iVillage and the Gardenweb network! Scan your computer for viruses and check for updates every chance you get to ensure protection. If your antivirus and antispyware programs have a setting to scan websites as you access them, please make sure that setting is turned on.

Suggested method:

Quarantine or deny access to the virus.

If quarantined, send the virus to your antivirus provider. Usually there is a tool in your antivirus program to send viruses or ad/spyware for research. Please do this whenever possible.

I did a search on the Seed Exchange site for the thread reporting this. I found the pointer but the thread has been removed. (see below) MY initial feeling is this was a malicious post.

Interesting warning. I would think that if this where true, GW and Ivillage would have a posted warning to alert all users to this serious problem with our computers. Their business is on the net, they would not want any problems for users. They would immediately take action with the problem and warn all users. There is no mention of this problem on the computer forum, which I would expect an immediate posting there by those that frequently post on that forum about this. A google search has produced no info either. I posted on the computer help forum, asking if there was any validity to this post and so far no response. I also sent an e-mail to GW directly and asked if this where true. I suspect that the poster may or may not have picked up a virus somewhere else on the web and believes it came from GW and/or Ivillage OR received this info in an e-mail and assumed it to be true and posted it here for all of us to read. Jess: Really like the links you gave on making baby-powder recipe. THANK YOU. I have Calendula flowers in my garden (it's a perennial): "1/2 cup arrowroot powder & 1 tsp chamomile or calendula flowers, powdered in the blender or food processor or a few drops of chamomile essential oil." Chronic sinus can also be from allergies to cat-dander. When I first met my husband, he had 4 cats, I constantly sneezed from the cat's hair. He gave away 3, and kept only one cat. I washed his cat weekly, to decrease the dander, so I won't sneeze so much. Now we have zero cat, bad-allergy. However, probiotics like L. Rhamnosus GG (in Culturelle and Solgar Advanced Multi-billion Dophilus) ... that strain of bacteria is proven to slash pneumonia in half, so it helps with membrane in sinus & lung. I gave my 13-year-old daughter Culturelle, Hyperbotics, Solgar, plus Kefir for that past 5 days. I meant to decrease her oily secretions so she has less facial pimples .. and that ended up lessened underarm odor. She's allergic to chemical deodorant, so she uses Milk-of-Magnesia ... magnesium hydroxide has a drying effect, but doesn't last long. Last night I sniffed her shirt before putting in laundry... Wow !! Barely noticable odor, same with my clothes, I can easily wear the same clothes & undies twice, since the probiotics suppress the bad-odor-causing bacteria. That's the logic for daily consumption of Kefir and pickled veggies: less body odor. There's studies that show babies born through C-section has more allergies than babies born through birth-canal. I LOVE PURPLE BUTTONS! I am getting giddy just thinking about its late springflush of bloom. PB and Midnight Blue are the Marie Pavies of the purple rose world. Perfectly sized for my inner city garden and absolutely joy-inspiring whenever I spot a cluster of blooms. In fact, Marie Pavie and PB look fanatic side by side. Breathtaking! All summer. Violette is one of my very favorite roses! (I think I'm repeating myself.) It is my top purple rambler. The color, when backlit, is breathtaking. I have been visiting mine daily. I just heard Jacob Ward* on CNN say a few interesting things. 1. That with the case of the woman patient in Northern California, 36 nurses had to be quarantined! That’s a lot of staff missing from duty. 2. That the travel ban is misdirected. (Could you guess that xemophobe Stephen Miller wrote Trump’s speech? “Foreign” Disease.” The Covid-19 virus is here in the US and elsewhere already already. (not sure if rest is from Jake Ward or another good guest) 3. TESTING TESTING TESTING (and no backlogs, please)! Testing allows epidemiologists to learn where our own hotspots are. We need to be able to plan & allocate resources. A few days ago, some expert said that one thing large scale testing for the Covid-19 virus does, is allow pretty good zeroing in on who’s got the virus, where they are. They (epidemiological detectives) can interview patients and use various paper, mobile phones and electronic tracking to help them figure out common trail and sources. (Cue up Forensic File music.) 4. One of the expert guests suggested, depending on how “hot” your area seems to be or likely will be, to postpone elective surgery to free up hospital beds. I guess my surgery is elective ;-/ but I am in significant discomfort/pain. I think it is a go home that day, but light general anesthesia or just put me in a coma. Small joint surgery. Don't know where watermelon7 9 gets this information, but GardenWeb took the message away.

I also did a member search for aliases watermelon and watermelon 7 9.

Several watermelon based aliases but no watermelon 7 9. My bet is iVillage took remedial action there too.

Actually, the message is still there on the conversation side of the seed exchange forum. I just checked the thread that is in question.

I posted to it with my own personal suspicions.

The member name is watermelon7 . The 9 is in reference to what garden zone she lives in.

I did send an e-mail to GW and asked if there was any validity to this post but have not had a response as of yet.

Looks like they have not made a complete delete yet of this post, only done a partial.

Thanks for the info, figured you guys would have far more info on the subject than a poster on the seed exchange

I couldn't find that message, but there are plenty more in the Seed Exchange Forum.

You get the Whoops message because GW moved the post this AM from the Trade side of the forum over to the Conversation side. After things cycle through GW tonight it will likely not yield the Whoops message on a search tomorrow.

Fran's link takes you there fine though.

I think it is unlikely to be on Gardenweb unless it happens to be in one of the advertisement links, and that could be possible. GW does not allow much of any type of code to be put on the site even when trying to reply to a post with some very minor code references GW will stop the reply from going through. Now if an ad placed here has been clickjacked with in the code of the ad that might be a possibility. However I and many have adblock plus and no script which would stop it.
I have not seen any evidence at all but then I am using linux at all times when visiting here.

We have seen many very legit websites fall prey to bad ads that did have clickjacking in them which would lead to a malware infection site. That is where a lot of the dreaded antivirus xp 2009 and all the various names it now has comes from.

Usually once a site is notified of this happening they quickly remove the offending malware code.
