Spyware Blaster Question

I started researching spyware blaster because it is not in my start up menu. I could not find a date on the article to see if it is an old post and things might have changed since it was written. Is there any truth in this.

SpywareBlaster is a good program to add additional security for your PC. However, there is a 'small problem' with SpywareBlaster. It doesn't automatically start up when your PC boots.

Here is the 'fix':

Go to the programs folder, usually located at
C:\Program Files\SpywareBlaster

Find the exe. file named spywareblaster.exe and create a shortcut.
Right-click on the shortcut and go to its properties.
In the target box, modify the Run command to include the /AUTO switch at the end. Make sure to put a space in between.
"C:\Program Files\SpywareBlaster\spywareblaster.exe" AUTO

Cut/Copy and paste this new shortcut to the Startup folder found in the Start>All Programs Menu or in this directory:

C:\Documents and Setting\[username]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I'm not exactly sure what the quoted writer is complaining about; SWB not running in realtime following a bootup, or the application is not active following bootup so to provide a faster response if user demanded.

The free versions of SAS and MAM do not run in realtime, and I personally have the lone "services" entry, which is for SAS to load faster, configured to manual.

The only realtime detection I have is my AV.

DA does real time mean running in the background like an antivirus? I thought Spyware Blaster was suppose to do that. Evidently he doesn't think it does unless you make the change he suggested. When I click to open it, it auto updates and I have to click enable. It says my computer is protected.

Hi, zep, I can get my definitions update...I am thinking that this pop up is notifying me about a software update? I'm sorry, I wasn't clear on that. exgm, I followed your link and I am set up as a home group. I am the only administrator as far as I know. When I first set up the computer, the setup process asked me to type in my name...I thought that was naming myself as the administrator? ...I was doing some looking around to see if I could provide any more information. I opened up Properties for SAS and there is a tab there titled COMPATIBILITY. I opened it and there is a checkbox there that says Run this program as an administrator. Will it solve my problem if I check it?

Thank you Ravencajun, I completely missed that one I must have fallen asleep. I see what you are talking about. I had Spyware Blaster before and it was removed from my computer when I took it in the shop. It had nothing to do with my firewall acting up, although something caused it not to come on for 30 or 40 seconds after I booted up. Now it only pops up for a half a second and then turns on. I still have not figured out what caused that problem. That is one of the main reasons that I took it in. Now the red X pops in and out right away. I have windows XPSP3 with Norton Antivirus and it seems to be catching something and removing it right away. It is Atdmt.com and one orphan cookie. Those seem to come in when the computer sits idle and Norton removes it. Thanks a lot. thirdfrt!!!

you might try installing it in safe mode that way no other programs would be running and it might go through easier. But javacool has a specific forum set up in Wilders so I would suggest going to the Spywareblaster forum and posting there. Javacool is very nice and would probably love to know about the problem so he can try to fix it if it is a conflict. Here is the link SpywareBlaster & Other Forum

Dar there is no reason not to go ahead and keep spywareblaster it will not cause any problems and will keep you protected in other ways, it may not protect you when using Chrome but it does still protect you, if you look at the main page when spywareblaster opens you will see it lists all the ways it protects you and that one browser is just one of several so definitely continue to use it and update it, when you update it and click enable all protection it will show you all the areas of protection also. It does not conflict with Chrome and it may well work, when you enable all protection on your spywareblaster you will see it listed in the green list if it is protecting it.

Realtime is right now, and the future right now. In other words, all the time. On-demand is when the user wishes.

Thanks, that is what I thought. Not sure of the terminology sometimes, that's always been a problem with me because I have no one to speak computer with. LOL
