Day before yesterday when I booted up my computer somehow it had up-graded to Windows 9 and I could not find my favorites, etc. Everything at the top of the screen was gone. I did a restore back to windows 7 and today when I turned on the computer it was back to windows 9. How can I stop it from doing this??? thank you, p

If it was windows 9, you might be somehow waking up in some future year.

Hopefully you mean;
  Internet Explorer 9
which is a browser automatically installed by windows updates.

It will continue to do that since they have put the IE9 update in the auto updates you get for your windows. If you do not want to get that update you need to go to the windows update page and right click on the IE9 update and select not to be offered it. Other wise every time your pc checks for windows updates it will put it back on.
There is a IE8 you could go to if you are still on IE7 it is getting pretty outdated you really should move up. They put out those newer versions for security reasons so using an outdated version is risky business.

I thought I had woke up in some future world where we had gone through windows 7, 8 and were jumping into 9 LOL

Might push the ALT key to see the Favorites menu, or right click on a blank area of the tool bar and add a checkmark to the menu or favorites bar setting.
