Thanks for the responses ! :-) In the article ravencajun linked to, the author noted, "Although I have only had IE9 installed for a couple of hours, I already appreciate the increased webpage viewing area of IE9 over previous versions of Internet Explorer. I found this partly true and partly false. ISTM that there is some wasted space (whether this is in IE9 or also previous versions, I don't know). E.g. I downloaded the WOT add-on for IE9 and it created its own toolbar with only the WOT icon on it ! No way to hide it. Only remove the toolbar and simultaneously remove WOT ! :-( I did that and can't get it back ! I tried RE-downloading the WOT add on but it still doesn't show up. Btw, at the same time the title bar was all but empty. It seemed like a lot of wasted (precious) screen real estate. Betas.... ....sigh...

Try this procedure... Open a webpage. Stretch it out to fullsize. Don't use maximize. Choose any link on that webpage and right-click> open in a new window. Stretch that second window out to the desired size- don't use maximize. Close the first IE window. Then close that second resized window. this is another method you can try Open a new Internet Explorer window. Without using the maximize button, drag the corners of the window until it completely fills the screen or it's the size you prefer. While holding down the Ctrl key, click on the menu File : Close. (Note: Do not use the [X] in the upper right corner to close the window.) Open a new Internet Explorer window. This time, the window should be the same size as you last had closed it. for me the first method usually works

I used Firefox with my Macbook for years because I was not happy with Safari. Recently I decided to give Safari another chance, and I have to say that I it has greatly improved and seems to meet all my online needs. As far as finding things, I'm assuming you are referring to the search engine you are using (Google, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Bing, etc.) and not the browser (Safari, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc.). If that is what you mean, you can easily change the default search engine that Safari uses when you type a topic into the address bar. To make this change, simply go to Preferences in Safari, which is found in the dropdown menu under Safari, as in the dropdown you use to quit the app. You have the choice of 4 or 5 search engines you can choose from. My thinking is that for most instances, Safari is going to be the best browser to use, simply because it was created explicitly for use on a Mac. But as some of the other responses indicate, I too keep a couple of other browsers in my dock should I run into any issues with Safari, which is my default browser. The default browser-the one that opens any random links you might click on when you are not online, and can also be easily changed in System Preferences. Sorry if this is way too basic for you... I've been trying various combinations of space, dash, and >, but am not familiar with the combination of a dash and >. Anyway, I did finally figure out that Pale Moon has not disabled Scrapbook. But all its contents are still missing, no matter what I do. At some point, I also got to Scrapbook in my FF profile, but then nothing inside it led to a solution. The best I could do was to choose the browser to open an .rdf file, which resulted--depending on what I clicked on--in messages: (1) "This XML file (Huh? I thought it was RDF.) does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below" and some meaningless repetitions of RDF and "urn:scrapbook:root" that took me to a very confusing list of unhelpful things when I clicked on it, and (2) an extremely long list of items in a blue font, some of which bore a resemblance to things that might have been in Scrapbook, while others did not, all smashed together with no organization and impossible to use. I suppose this was for the same reason mentioned in (1), that there was no style information associated with it. I am considering that "last resort." I'm tempted to go ahead with sys restore immediately, but as it happens, the only restore point is 9/12, which was well before PM was installed, so to be polite, I will wait to see if anyone on the Pale Moon forum (where I have posted about this problem) offers a solution. Somehow, I despair of success in this case, and I'll probably have to give up on the lost Scrapbook entries and then decide whether or not all the trouble and confusion are worth sticking with Pale Moon. The way it and Firefox seem to be communicating and changing things in each other behind the scenes might drive me crazy. I've never come across anything like that before.
