finding my geanology

my desk top computer was not working and so I got my repair man to come and fix it. The long and short was it was not fixable, so I asked him to transfer all my stuff over to my lap top. Unfortunately he did not transfer any of my geanology and that is something that I want. My geanology was a 10. My question is can I put this 10 on my windows 7??? Or should I buy one of the newer CD's

Assuming you have the CD for the genealogy program place it in the computer and follow along. You will be told if it can be installed or not.

You say the program is 10? But what is the name of it as there are many such programs out there? That way perhaps someone else has the same program and can offer more concrete advice.

If he did not try installing the program did he transfer your personal family history data? If not do you still have the old computer, because if he transferred other stuff the hard drive must be readable.

If you successfully install the genealogy program, it will be empty. You'll need to import the data, which is still on the old computer. This is done from a back-up copy of the data, which should be done frequently and stored on some other media, just in case. Everyone makes back-up copies to safe guard their work, right?

Oh, do I have the tile for you! :o) Ours isn't yet installed, but check out Walker Zanger's "Gramercy Park." It's 2x6, crackled, creamy, and has a hand-made look. Xedos, Not sure I'm understanding (but thank you so much for advising me on this). For the contract, I will have as much spelled out as I can. As for speaking to the contractors initially to get estimates, I have not been asking for specific waterproofing methods. Based on the conversations I've had with contractors around here it looks like Laticrete is the only vendor around here with a real presence. It's the only product that multiple contractors mentioned using. I haven't spoken to anyone who has said .. I've used laticrete, redguard and ditra ... which one would you prefer. After weeding through the contractors that don't waterproof the walls, and the ones that don't preslope the floor when using a vinyl pan, I feel like if I filter contractors by a specific kind of waterproofing before they even give me an estimate, I will never find someone. Ok, I'm off to email my newly drafted scope of work to a contractor that I got off the CTEF website. Please continue to advise!

Caroline, just measured up for you. Width end to end is 10 feet, 5 inches. Width of TV section is 5 feet. Depth of mantel level shelves are 11" and 10" for upper 2 shelves. Base cabinet depth is 16 inches. Hope that helps. It adds a substantial focal point to the space and IMO, really finishes off the room. We had them built during our kitchen remodel on the afternoon that the contractor was waiting for the drywall plaster to dry. He used all leftover materials and charged us next to nothing to do them since he was here anyhow. I've learned that bundling projects together offers major cost efficiencies because for the contractors it's worth their while to make a few extra bucks if they're here anyway and all their equipment is already set up. Thanks for input everyone. I need to go through the ideas and further digest what youve said. I will be offline for the next few days. I'll be anxious to check in next weekend. To answer and clarify some things... I havent consulted with a designer, only architect, so far. Good point though. I know sink and stove shouldnt be so far across the room and with island in the way. This layout isn't good. That's why Im seeking help. I am very open to and have considered a prep sink somewhere. We bought the house many years ago with every intention of remodeling it. It's been a rental. It is in a great location but is run down and dated. It is getting completely gutted. We would not be able to afford the beautiful new house this will be when it's done. Windows and doors can and are moving. We are just not changing the footprint of the house. I do not desire a sink in the island HOWEVER, I am fully aware that there may not be a good way to do this. If everyone says, "lady, get over it, you need to put a sink in the island or you will regret it later", I will believe. I guess I need to explore every option before I face reality. These drawings are to scale. We are re-doing the back deck. The front entrance is off the living and dining area. The back yard is on the north side of the house, top of these drawings, access from the kitchen. I am not attached to the double french doors, Was just trying to let lots of great light in and see the view and nature from the front of the house as well. The french door can slide either direction or be centered, I am open. I do want to be aware of the kitchen view from the living and entryway. I'll upload some more drawings.

thank you all. The site is called family tree and no I do not have the old computrer as the repair man took it and now has disposed of it. I have written to family tree but so far no answer.

The computer is gone, as is the valuable data. Sorry about that. You mention Family Tree SITE. Have you actually uploaded your tree (the GEDCOM files) to an online site? If so, you should be able to download the data BACK onto your computer. Of course, you'll first need to install any Family Tree SOFTWARE (the program) for a place to put the data. It would have been best to be using a back-up copy, which you don't seem to have created. Good luck.

Grace, am I right in thinking that your program is Family Tree Maker 2010 and that your research and records have been found and stored on www.Ancestry.com?

If so, then all your records will be safe and you will be able to easily download them from Ancestry.com onto your new computer.

Family Tree Maker 2010 (and 2011) work perfectly on Windows7 so there is no need to buy new CDs.

Start by installing Family Tree Maker 2010 on your computer.

Then telephone Ancestry.com on their toll free number and they will talk you through the simple steps to get everything running again.
