GW screen

My monitor screen is only half way on GW. 1/2 of my screen is blank. I think it started yesterday when I deleted the cookies (long story)
Looks like things below this box uses the whole screen but above it is 1/2 screen.
As far as I can tell this is the only place like that.

It's not clear if you are talking about a monitor problem or a web site problem. Can you post a screen shot of what you are referring to? I question whether this has anything to do with cookies.

OK here is a print screen..I hope U can see what I am talking about.
I doubt it has anything with cookies too..How can I fix it? I doubt others is like it.

My apple told me that their security certificate to encrypt data during transmission expired on 12/22/07 @ 5:59 pm. It was issued to Auth@gardenweb. Organization- General Electric Company. Org Unit- NBC. Issued by Trusted Secure Cert. Authority. Sounds to me like they paid for a service for a while- and their paid subscription is over for that service. I think our computer/cookies are used to seeing that info, and are telling us about the change in service. I am not sure what it means here at GW- but I think that is what is going on. I do hope that our personal information we registered with is still secure...

New tree/mulch questions

*sigh*...I thought it was just silver maples that have problems with chlorosis here. I don't want anything I will have to baby, since I am new to all this anyhow. A Norway maple sounds like it would be a pain also...how does one wrap a tree trunk?? I just want to plant it and forget about it (aside from giving it plenty of water its first year or two). This new tree is going in a very exposed location - right by the road on the southwest corner of our property (the house sits about 50 feet back). There is a four-foot vinyl fence a few feet away, but that's the closest thing to a "shady" side there is. Sounds like maybe I need to rethink ANY maple in that location, which just makes me sick to contemplate at this point because I am soooo picky about trees. =( On the bright side....the flowering cherry I planted in the spring seems to be doing well so far. I mulched about 3' around it, am watering deeply once or twice a week, and it looks happy. I am so thankful for that little tree! It keeps me hopeful and wanting to move ahead with all this. Flowering cherries are my sentimental trees from childhood, and my mom ordered this one for me. :-)

Eleena, as long as you have a white ceiling, the panel lights are so thin and unobtrusive that I don't see them making much of a style statement, utilitarian or otherwise. But, if you wanted a contemporary edge, you might consider mounting the 2 x 2 panels on the diagonal....which I might do if using can lights over the sink/peninsula. If I used pendants there, then I'd probably mount the panels on the square, or use the linear panels and not do anything to draw attention to them. That's because I would want the pendants to be a focal point.

Once when I was replying to one of plllog's posts, I tried to check the correct spelling by copying the name to Microsoft Publisher. Unfortunately, many things that are copied and pasted from the forums transfer as code, so it didn't help. Now I know; hope I remember! I'm still going by the same name, but didn't begin posting in the KT forums portion of GW until after the Houzz transfer anyway. A gyrfalcon is a bird, but I have long gone by simply Gyr too, so split the word out as a first and last name format long ago in previous forums. Many people type Gry instead of Gyr, but I am used to it and it doesn't bother me. My hair is turning gray IRL anyway. ;-)

That's identical to how this page looks to me, too. It's the GW "New Look", and is the same on all the other GW forums I've visited...

Sorry, I guess I should have read more post. I see some GREAT improvements but this isn't one of them. After being here for many years who ever is in charge now is sure good. Spike sent me to Disney World a few times. I was here a lot more when I had a garden..now in a small apt I only have 2 plants in my window..

if you read the other threads about it there are many suggestions for improving how it looks on your monitor.

If you would like to see that area utilized just turn off your ad blocking. Most of the ads are coded to go in that currently blank right area.

Also, in SF's screen shot there is a hint of a rectangle in the clouds below the browser toolbar and above the Garden Web banner. That's a blocked ad too.

I was in shock when I first saw it and wondered what was going on. I like it now, very clean looking

Thank you DA, I haven't seen an ad in so long I forgot what took up that space. Duh!!!!

Now that I know why it is blank I understand & It looks pretty good..sure better than ads. Sorry I complained & I do appreciate it.

Your screenshot looks about like mine on my netbook.

Because of the way they have the center area a fixed width rather than a percentage, it can look a lot more barren on a 1920 px width screen. Even allowing ads would leave lots of wasted space.

I'd rather have the empty space than ads. My luck the ads would be animated & they drive me up the wall :-D
