HELP!!!Got firefox, lost internet explorer

Because I could not get into the chat room for my stamp collecting the person suggested I use Mozella FireFox instead of Internet Explorer which is ok with me. Got that installed, got to the chat room OK, BUT it did something in internet explorer and I lost (or cannot get into) my favorites, MSN news etc It change to MFF.. How can I get it back? What do I do now???

Forgive the spelling errors, that bar is gone too! In fact all my toolbars are gone.

Sounds like you just need to open Internet Explorer from your Start/All programs menu and when it opens it might now say .. do you want to use IE as your default web browser... say yes.

Hi marie-ndcal,

Sounds like the menu bar was turned off,

The menu bar can be turned on or off in Internet Explorer.

Joe, I'm not saying this would or would not be useful, I just found it with a search... http://www.bbcode-to-html.com/ Personally though, just because I like to do things the difficult way I'd probably throw copies of all the text files containing the bbcode into a folder and attempt to develop a script to convert them all in one go. I'm not saying I could do it, but I'd likely try. For instance, this rough beginning using "sed" works on the bbcode you posted above. It's missing a bunch of tags, even the regular [URL] one, but maybe it wouldn't be that difficult to extend. I assume you have tried this:- Click Start click All Programs look for and click Internet Explorer. (near the top of the list) If there you can also right click on it and click Pin to Taskbar in the pop up menu If it is not there click the folder on your bottom task bar near the Start button to bring up Windows Explorer click the plus sign beside the C: drive on the left side in the menu dropped down below click the plus sign beside Program Files click on Internet Explorer to highlight it now look on the right side and right click on iexplore and in the pop up menu click to pin to Taskbar. Done.

mikie: can't say I understand the ghack... site well. It says to determine if my IE settings are already safely set in 'advanced' security mode by going thru Tools, Options, Advanced, and then down somewhere in the Security area to look or do something that is not clearly defined. I see that there is a check box for Allowing some 64 bit security setting that is checked in the ghack picture. It is not further described and it is not the highlighted item in that list. In my IE 11, that box is not checked, but by going more directly thru Tools, Security, I can see that 'advanced security' is selected. I suppose that 64 bit box might need to be checked, but it appears to be allowing more rather than less access and that seems like a weakness rather than an improvement. So, I don't know what I am supposed to do here. And it seems odd that a supposed huge hole that requires massive Microsoft scrambling can be fixed by checking a box or not!!! The ghack site then goes on about something called Enhanced Mitigated Experience Toolkit. It doesn't tell how to get it safely and also implies it is not needed if my security is set appropriately. Gee Thanks. Finally, it comments on Flash. I have already upgraded but I would like to point out that the Adobe terminology and others as well tend to suggest that it is an update rather than a newly named version. It seems odd that what seems like a patch, is a new version; but whatever, I guess.

Thank you and it worked, but now I am getting confused. Would it be better to have one program instead of trying to bounce back between two? I have had Internet explorer forever but now I have to have firefox for this one site regarding my stamp collections. How good is Mozella FireFox and should I just get rid of Internet Explorer? What about the features? Can I get MSN news on FireFox?
Sorry to be so uninformed, but having two such programs is really taking more time than I care to spend.

Why will that site not work in IE? What error if any do you get.

You cant get rid of Internet Explorer, it's beneficial to have 2 browsers anyway.

Not sure why it will not work, but maybe it is just the way the company has their website set up. It works perfect with firefox, and not at all with internet explorer.
It is called the virtual stamp club, run thru Delphi. So, I guess I will just have to either make one or the other my homesite and when I need to go to the chat room, change it around. I don't really get any error, just cannot get into the chat room. Thanks

I just joined the site had to install Java first, I was able to get in chat "Stress Games" In Internet Explorer 9.

What version Of Internet Explorer are you using? Just click help in the browser and then click "About Internet Explorer"

I'm wondering if you run Internet Explorer in "No Add ons" mode if that would work.

I have four browsers installed on my computer: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome. None of them interfere with one another, even when several of them are simultaneously open. I don't know why you are having some of the problems you describe, but you shouldn't be worrying about having to choose between Firefox and Internet Explorer. They are each discrete programs, just like Word or Notepad are discrete programs. Something else is going on here, or you have accidentally made some unintended changes to Internet Explorer, but it should have nothing to do with having two browsers installed.

Well I might have straighten things out. Went to IE and ran a bunch of updates etc I thing somehow there was a conflict, but that seems to have gone away. After that went to my stamp club thing and still could not get in to chat, BUT I still have FireFox so that is not a problem. Thanks again

Things seem to be back to normal (for me) but now I have bing on the bottom of the screen and it pops up all the time. I prefer google, and what happens if I take Bing off my computer?

When downloading anything, you have to make sure that there are no boxes checked in the different windows that open when downloading..Often times, they will piggyback these little programs to the download..so when going thru the various download steps, pay attention to what is there and if there are any little boxes checked..in a lot of cases, this is how, differfent toolbars are downloaded to your computer and how your Homepage might be changed

Nothing happens if you get rid of Bing; it's just gone. I don't use Bing much, but I do have it available in Firefox as an alternate search engine when I want it. The following link explains how to easily manage your search engines, and select the one you want for your default in Firefox.
