Error messages upon restarting

I have had my Toshiba laptop for about 1.5 years. It runs on Windows 7, and the browser is IE.

Every day, I get a message that says "Restart you computer to finish installing important updates".

And, every day, after restarting, I get the following 3 pop-up error messages. The error messages all start the same with

"There was a problem starting C:\users\user\appdata\roaming\

then one of the following:
pcspa\dll
onexfs\dll
oeacf\dll

All 3 pop-ups end with "The specified module could not be found".

From what I can tell, I "think" this has something to do with installing Windows 8, but I'm very computer illiterate.

What should I do to resolve these issues?

I want to get Office for Home & Student, but I don't want to install anything if there's a serious problem that I need to resolve first.

I've also have seen this message: "Update to Kernel-Mode Driver Framer", but not lately.

Run the Windows up-Date fix it first. In the link provided click the run now tab, see if that fixes the up date issue.

Those dll's make no sense either. Could you run a scan with Malwarebytes and post the log

Did you install Windows 8 ?

No, I didn't install Windows 8.

I tried to run Microsoft Fix-It, but got an error message:

Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occured.
We're sorry, but the program encountered an error and cannot continue. Please try again later.

I on't have a clue how to go about running a scan with Malwarebytes and posting the log.

Wow. So glad I posted. I didn't even realize the rootkit thing was a big issue (and I'm not sure that's what I saw). Avast was scanning - and it didn't even come up with the usual alarming "found something" screen. It just seemed to pause and said this had to be stopped/removed first. It never even showed up as an infected file. So it seems I have to deal with this rootkit issue first - before the possible device driver issue - or system restore. Is it possible that this rootkit issue is the only one going on? Thank you for the caution about not using my password. I didn't do any online purchases. The only password I would have entered was for my gmail account. Luckily I don't use that password for my commerce, banking, etc accounts. So I want to be sure the order of things: update and run malwarebytes first? then do the LzD removal? I'm not sure if that's an online scan program - or is there actually a company I will be asking assistance from? Don't know if this is related. Earlier today when I was using the computer (my main PC) do look at emails, it logged me out and said my gmail was locked and would be inactive due to too much activity (from pop accounts) - or browser compatibility issues (I have Firefox and have had some gmail/Firefox issues from time to time). As it happens, I can still access my gmail account from my laptop. I didn't try again from my PC - and itseems that I shouldn't for now. Now I had also used my gmail from my laptop, my daughter's pc and my smartphone - all just today. I assumed that's why I got logged off. But could this be a result of my gmail account getting hijacked (or whatever it would be?). Thanks everyone for your timely responses. I didn't realize it was quite this serious when I first posted - just that my PC said it was serious. Lynn. PS - used2bsane - I am not that knowledgeable so your instructions above were great and much needed. It seems that I have to address the rootkit issue first, however. If you have not already try running a Malwarebytes scan, make sure you can up-Date malwarebytes too Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop click Here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Once the program has loaded, select "Quick Scan", then click Scan The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note) The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply. Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

If you Google Potential Connection Issue (Message ID: NAD-2902) It does appear to be some sort of issue with that Motorola modem an other models like it, the biggest problem with your model I saw was over heating. Suggestions, get a new modem if it constantly gives the error and no real issue is present.

STOP: 0x00000050 suggests a video card driver may be at fault. Ever updated your video driver? If you do not know what video card you have click Start/Control panel/System/Hardware/Device manager. Now look down the list and double click on Display adaptors. You can then go to the appropriate site and see if updated drivers are available for your machine. Have you been inside the case or moved the tower at all? Check the video cable is securely fastened at both ends. If you have a separate video card as opposed to built into the motherboard ensure it is seated properly AFTER shutting down, removing the power cable from the rear and resting you bare hand or arm on the metal case frame to ground yourself.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop click Here

Make sure you download the "Free" version and not the "Pro" version.

As an additional thought to item #1: uncheck the check box for "Enable trial version of Malwarebytes Pro".
