I have some PDF files saved and want to be sure I don't loose them and I can open them. If I uninstall Adobe and install Sumatra will the saved files open in the new program.

Yes they should open just fine in Sumatra. And if they should be something special that only adobe can view(rare).. you can reinstall adobe reader,,,, .. new version out today.

Firefox I saw a message board todays new standard version reads PDF too. So if you use firefox.. you don't really need adobe or Sumatra or anybodys for basic PDF's.

If you look at Help... About in firefox, it should update to version 19.

I just made firefox the default pdf reader here by right clicking a pdf file and choosing Open with... and browsing to the firefox.exe and then setting it to the default program to use.

RE: Question about uninstall Adobe

The downside of mikie's suggestion, to use Firefox as the default program for pdf files, is that the various capabilities provided by Adobe Reader may not be available.

The tool possibilities on the Reader menu bar are limited, it's true, but they're still useful to have available.

Firefox has a PDF add-on.

I don't use or recommend browser add-ons, for their tendency to slow down and bloat their host programs that I view as being already slow and bloated. To me, using a purpose-specific program that's only loaded when needed is a preferred approach that gives predictable results.

All roads lead to Rome..

RE: Question about uninstall Adobe

Perhaps certain FF add-ons may have a negative effect, or too many installed add-ons may cause a concern, or certain combinations. However, I have yet to see it. I currently have 15 add-ons installed on FF 19.0, and as in all previous versions there is no adverse effect.
