Clickable Thumbnails

For heaven's sake... easily among the most common attributes of web pages today is the ubiquitous thumbnail hyperlinked to either a larger version of itself or to a text file or other url.

I just want to place clickable image thumbnails in a forum so that members pages would load faster and large images would not take up so much bandwidth.

I used to be able to do this easily with photobucket but they've so thoroughly screwed their website up that, among other things, the image links never work as advertized.

So I went on a full morning odyssey to discover how to HTML markup for clickable thumbnails. All the attempts to do it with raw code failed me. All the software packages I downloaded that promise to make instant and linkable thumbs to your original images expect you to use images on your own drive. None of them have options to link a thumbnail to a web server. What kind of sense does that make? MY computer would have to be on 24/7 for anyone to link to the image.

Any help here?
