Charlene any time you are going to get things like your fonts or any other downloads like that make it a habit to always before you open the file on your pc, immediately after you download it just go to that file and right click and choose to scan it with your antivirus program then make sure your malwarebytes is updated and do the right click scan and use malwarebytes too, if you do this you will prevent opening a potential infected file to your pc. Keeping malwarebytes updated is essential so that when you do a right click scan it has all the latest definitions, your antivirus program gets them automatically but with malwarbytes you have to open the program and hit update. Also running malwarebytes at least once a week, fully updated and full scan is a very good habit to get into. and we have to all remember when something is offered to us free sometimes there is a reason and it comes with a nasty little bonus unfortunately they love to add those to stuff like wallpaper, fonts, smilies, all the nice fun stuff. This virus is advanced and has recognized MBAM as a threat to it's existence on your computer and can leave you wide open to much more severe infections that can not only render your computer useless, yet also invite other infections that can steal your personal information and also get into your acct's if you do any online banking, shopping, etc. "Search Redirect Virus". What makes this virus annoying is not the fact you are getting redirected all the time, but the fact it makes itself impossible to remove with your conventional anti virus. It does this by infecting your system in a different way to a normal virus. Normally, a virus would install software or run a process, which can harm your system but your anti virus picks up on this before the infection gets a hold. However, the Redirect Virus manages to infect a system file, allowing to cause the redirects but also evade detection. The system file in question is one used by the operating system to handle redirect requests. Such requests are made whenever you click a search result link. This is a normal process. However, once the virus has infected your system, it manipulates this process to redirect you to random advertisements and sites that are of the highest nature for more infections. bbbluz

Dennis, thanks for a well laid out list of problems. It does help those who feel they can see some or all of your problems. AVG is by far the most popular free anti virus and I doubt that is your issue. I would not remove that one. Spyware Doctor I know nothing about. If you have the original CD or the download stored on your computer you could remove it entirely using the Add/Remove and see if that helps at all. Superantispyware and or Malwarebytes could be alternatives to trying Spybot Search & Destroy. If you use Spybot S&D be sure it is in fact that program and not a sound alike rogue program. Have you ran any cleaners at all? Not registry cleaners but the Disk cleanup in the Accessories/System Tools folder of XP. Try that and a defrag, it will help modestly. Do you have Google or Yahoo toolbars and are they allowed to run in the background? The Google Toolbar has either 3 or 4 entries in your Startup and using your resources. Click Start click Run type msconfig click OK click the Startup tab Now check each of these items and decide if they do in fact need to run. Google each entry before deciding to stop one because if you stop the wrong ones the computer may not start again. If you stop any you need to reboot. During the reboot you will get a dire warning, do not be alarmed, place a check mark not to see it again and continue the booting.

I would add WOT to your browser it comes for every type and I would also add spywareblaster it is free you just update it about once a week or so then hit enable all updates so the shield turns green no scans to run, it is all configured when you get it very easy. Be sure when you get the download to continue with the free version do not go to the trial if you pay attention during the process you will see what I am talking about.
