firefox has disabled all java in their browsers. It would be in the plug ins area of firefox under tools, add ons do you see it there have you right clicked it and selected to remove it? I assume this is connected to another thread, it is really helpful if you start a new thread about something that has been discussed to put a link to that in the new thread so we know what you have done. I wish my memory was so good I could remember everything from all the forums but at times I am lucky I remember my name.

I am not getting these follow-up posts emailed to me even though i checked to have emails sent - so I didn't know there was more. I hope they keep supporting version 3 - since we have 5 xp computers between home and work. I do have FF4 on dd's laptop - but not quite sure how it's going for her. She said she didn't like it - and I offered to try above suggestions to make it appear more like she's familiar with. She wants me to in theory - but in reality never wants to hand over the computer to have me do it. When I have more leisure to try again, am I recalling correctly that I can have 2 firefoxes installed - one version 3, and one version 4? And I can use xmarks to sync bookmarks, etc. That way I can get used to ff4 - but go back to 3 for the times I need things to go smoothly and not tinker? When I go to that page, it does not list my system information. So I clicked each additional suggestion. No luck. Specifics are: The Firefox plugin is enabled. Nothing happens when I try to open the Java panel. It won't open. The instructions for clearing the cache do not seem right. When I go to the Edit button, I do not have a + or option to expand. So I could not do that one. I did try to find it through tools - options - advanced - network. It says I have no cache being stored for on or offline (I had just run ccleaner before =- so that cleared the cache, I think). I still selected clear now - but I couldn't tell if anything happened. So all the options either showed no problem =- or I couldn't not execute them. Any pointers would be great. Thanks. Lynn.

Bus Driver, The point is that you have said repeatedly, very authoritatively but incorrectly, that it couldn't be the lower element. Whether this instance turns out to be the thermostat or the element isn't the issue. Rather than listening to others' experience, you dismissed them and gave references to the conductivity of water instead. Even when a couple of posters said the same thing and elaborated on how it happens, you insisted that it couldn't. Again, you have absolutely no basis for your conclusion that "element failures constitute a very statistically small percentage..." and you aren't doing anyone any favors by saying that. The fact that a thermostat could be bad is probably the obvious place to look. Where this website comes in handy is to take advantage of the experience of other people who have come across a similar problem. Although I admit to not having to use Ohm's law very recently-- as I'm sure you noticed-- I'm no slouch on electrical theory. I was pursuing my Ham license when I was 11 years old which at that time required a lot of basic AC and DC theory (I could never pass the Morse code test). As I said, I really do appreciate people who apply technical knowledge and sound reasoning to these kinds of problems. But when you misuse that to sound authoritative when you aren't is unfair.
