getting rid of little box at the top of the screen

Posted by gogwmos (My Page) on

I just bought a new Dell laptop, and there is a little grey box that appears at the top right of my computer. It has "tasks" and "collections" and sample pics on it, and I want it GONE!

How do I make it disappear? TIA!

Having never owned a Dell:

Did you try right-clicking on "the little grey box" to see if a drop menu appears offering Preferences or Options?

Also, did you look in the Startup to see if there is an entry pertaining to this feature which can be unchecked?

You might also want to check in your user manual for the identification of this "little grey box" knowing that, then it might be easier to assist in what can be done...deleting it could result in loss of important functions

Go here for one on one live chat with a Dell tech

Here is a link that might be useful: Dell chat

Hi DA! Good to see you here, I haven't had a new computer or 'puter problem in a few years and you were always good for help. No, there is no physical way to clsoe the box, I remember having this same problem with my Dell desktop but don't remember the fix.

Genes, bought it used from a place in Tampa, no manual or anything was included. LOVE the computer but hate the little stuff you have to do to tweak a new computer to your own preferences. I did order a manual off of eBay but it hasn't come yet.

Raven, it looks like I will be chatting!

Thanks all!

Raven, I did try your suggestion and started a new thread that said " I have tried contacting Dell about this, but unless you use IE they won't help with live chat. "

Sorry, I wasn't aware we were limited to one thread per problem.

All responses in regards to your initial problem should be kept on one thread to keep from having to bounce back and forth..also, user manuals for most laptops are available online and easily found with a google search

Your posts are sometimes confusing...your first post said that you bought a new Dell laptop, then in a subsequent post it becomes a used laptop.....initially, you might have said a newer used Dell computer and I could have steered you to a suggestion of getting an electronic copy of a user manual if you didnt have one..just sayin

It went away on its own! Hooray!
