I dragged our old Dell Tower out of the closet. It's been 4 or 5 years since it was turned on, and for the most part I think I got everything off of it.

However, I think there are some files that I need. Problem is, it's password protected to log on.

NO ONE can remember the password. I've tried opening it in safe mode, but it's still asking for the password.

Anyone have any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to remove the harddrive from the old computer and either buy an enclosure (pretty cheap on EBay and plug the enclosure into a USB port and access the files that way (it will show up as another drive much the same as a thumbdrive does) or, if you have another desktop, install the old HD in the new computer and access it that way...

Try using Gregory Topala's SIW linked below. There is a standalone version there you simply download and run, no install needed. Then look in the 'Secrets' folder on the left side. If that fails they try Belarc Advisor it too shows passwords. Here is a link that might be useful: SIW

there's methods to do it use google that is not something that I post on any forums for safety sake. That is something that should never happen that is one password you want to be sure you write down and save. Thank you. The grout is a antique white. While I have been doing Shabby Chic for so long and only recently got interested in bold/bright colors for outdoor mosaics, the only grout color that really compliments the Shabby decor, is white and sometimes pastels. Because the palette of colors used are so frilly, feminine shabby, they would be drowned badly if a dark grout was used. I thought about lavender or pale yellow, but the china already has some of those colors, so I opted for just the antique white, right outta the box. I have seen some pots mosaiced over, but....I working with cylindrical type objects, just don't ignite my ambition much. I love working with flat surfaces. Well there must be something for combined chemo and radiation. "Don't ask questions, as we don't have the answers" You must be proactive, not reactive. ASK,ASK.ASK. WHY,WHY,WHY??? I would not be doing a thing, without answers. Have you consulted a radiation oncologist? What chemo medication is being administered? Side effects? I have 3 folders full of my husbands info. Take everything to each Doctor OR whoever you see. Keep a notepad with ?'s and answers. I keep a chronological list of each Dr. visit and note down WEIGHT, BP etc. Keep a paper copy of EVERYTHING....BLOODWORK, TEST RESULTS. There has been many times a different Dr. has not had the newest results and you have them. Your Primary should be your biggest advocate. Ours would call others Doctors whilst we were there to get answers. Just my 2 cents.... sorry for the story. I have a Husband who is stubborn, but after 20 years he has said if it wasn't for me, he would probably be dead. Get those answers!!!! and good luck.

If you never set an administrator password, you can start it in safe mode, use administrator as the id and leave the password blank. If you get in you can reset the password for the other account in Control Panel User Accounts.

It's a big if but worth a try, IMO.

I have been trying for days to get into my old Windows XP desktop but couldn't remember my password. I followed pkponder's advice and finally opened it. Thank you, pkponder! However, when I went to the Control Panel User Accounts, I couldn't find anything. Does that mean the account with my user name is no longer there? Can it be recovered?
