Facebook's New Profile Page -- How to ' not accept ' ?

What does one do if one does not want the new Facebook profile?

I understood that Facebook users would have a choice.

Now I have a message that says Profile page be automatically changed in a few days. Can't figure out how to "not accept" ....

For the month of December, Facebook gave people the option to upgrade to the new profile early.

The new look is now being rolled out to all users (450 million). It's not a VOLUNTARY choice. What's good for facebook is good for you I guess.

Lots of complaints as there always is with any change.

I just recently read an article on that and how it was set default to share which is just ridiculous.

I highly recommend this site for anyone using facebook

I copied this info from one of the other forums I am on

"NEW PRIVACY setting called "Instant Personalization" that shares data with non-Facebook websites and it is automatically set to "Enable." Go to Account >Privacy Settings > Applications and Websites >Instant Personalization > Edit Settings, and un-check "Enable". BTW if your friends don't do this, they will be sharing information about you."

according to some of the latest articles today was the date that it was to be changed on all facebook pages.

Camps, if you sat and looked at my fb page, you would see posts from relatives, school friends, dog forum friends, photographer friends and then the "info and ads" I follow a lot of garden companies, writes and botanical gardens. I enjoy admiring what they are doing even if it is something I can't grow or read. Plus the local and travel updates are interesting. There are a lot of companies that advertise, but I choose to either look or skip. I tend to post only generic or less personal things. I skip the political/religious stuff-kind of hard since I went to church school...lol I enjoy connecting with my friends and seeing what they are up too. No drunken party photos on my pages, cause if that is how that person lives, we have different lifestyles and that is not what I want to see. I also "hid" several people that are in to personal dramas-I deal with way too much of that at work so not about to add that in for fun. Like I said, you can use it as a tool and decide how you want to work with it

But it DOESN'T take your reading habits, Old Gardener. It's your posting habits.... nothing that one of your Facebook friends couldn't find by looking on your profile. It doesn't track what pages you visit, or what you click on or what you read, rather what you comment on. When I first heard about the profile tracker stuff, it freaked me out, too. I don't want my cousin's friend that I've never met to know that I've been checking out the pictures of her new puppy, even if she DID make them public and wouldn't likely care. :) Nor would I want a certain KT member to know that I've clicked through her Facebook album of her culinary treats multiple times. hehehe What I've read is that Facebook policy allows applications to access information about who has made comments, written on walls, etc., but it doesn't allow page counts and such. I found the WALL of that "Facebook Trackers do not Exist" page that I posted to be very informative. Check out some of the comments. Also, here's a link to the Facebook page of one of these applications (that has more than 80 000 members) that just exposed itself as a hoax and a "social experiment". Remember, Facebook is "free". Peoples "likes" are exactly what has value to Facebook. It's what is supposed to help in targeting advertisements. But that said you can disable like and comments by going to your friends lists. Click on your friends name, go to settings and uncheck the "comments and likes" button. You have to do this for each individual friend. Of course that sort of defeats the purpose of Facebook since it is about social networking. A lot of people view FB as a way to keep in touch with family (sort of an enhanced email service without having to actually go email someone) but that really wasn't it's purpose. So it defaults to it's real purpose which is a constant news feed of all activity. Your choice is to cull your friends, Opt out of comments and likes or use the hide button as the feed comes in. If you do disable likes and comments the only way you will see your friends activity is to visit their page. So it's a double edged sword to cut their feed.

Try refreshing the page and clicking on the link again. Mine browser does that when I open another tab and try to open a new page before the tab is completely open. don't save. Just refresh and try again.

I got that message today. So I went ahead and switched over
to the new layout. Was no big deal. I don't think it
changed any of my privacy settings. Other than my profile
page everything else looks the same to me.

Pooh, you are right, no big changes, but the checkmark that RC was refering to is there and as long as you leave it, you info will be shared...

It bears repeating:

I would like to add for anyone who joins and invites friends and family to meet them there, please ask your friends by email, don't let Facebook do it. My stepdaughter allowed Facebook to do it and now they have my family and friends email address. I got all kinds of emails from them until I bounced them back.

I knew about the Instant Personalization setting.
I have it unchecked. Been that way for a LONG time.

I went back and checked my privacy settings.
None of them had been changed.
Even the Instant Personalization setting was the same.

Facebook got my master account address that my step daughter has been using for years because she is "family".

Do they automatically get all the addresses in her address book or does she have to give them to Facebook?
