System Restore not working

Using Windows XP SP3.

Tried to do a System restore today (which has always worked until today) picked a date, machine went through the motions, showed the progress bar, then restarted. After completing the restart, the message came up:

Your computer cannot be restored to (date I chose) No changes have been made to your computer. To chose another restore point, restart Systems Restore.

Tried that with a different date with same results.

Last time I needed to do a System restore was back in early December and everything worked fine.

RE: System Restore not working

I remember having this happen to me some time back. I still don't know why, but I booted into SafeMode and was able to do the System Restore. You might give that a try and see if it works for you.

RE: System Restore not working

Sorry I can't help with your question, but I'd like to ask why it might be that Restore is a monthly event for your PC?

It should be needed rarely if ever.

RE: System Restore not working

Last time that happened to me it was a virus that prevented a system restore.
