How to Install Internet Express?

HP Win7 Home Premium Desktop, about 2 years old.

I have not used Internet Explorer on this machine. Now I want to, primarily because I have an Angelfire web site, and with all the different browsers now, I would like to see my pages in IE. FF is my default browser.

Here is what I see when I try to install IE from a link on my desktop:

Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this Computer. Yes.
Internet Explorer 11 MS Corp. Downloaded from the Internet. Yes.
(Next message:) IE did not finish installing. Set up can't continue because a more recent version of IE is installed on your computer.

What do I do now?

Your heading says Internet Express, but you speak of Internet Explorer.

I'll assume you mean Internet Explorer, the browser. I believe it's always preinstalled on all Windows machines. Click on Start, All Programs, and look for the blue lower case "e" icon and the words "Internet Explorer".

Can you find that?

If you have downloaded internet explorer from angelfire, it would be a good idea to run something like malwarebytes.

If Internet Explorer is installed already you should be able to just type into the search or run box iexplore.exe and you should be able to make a shortcut to it on your desktop too with same filename.

I've read several posts similar to this one and I don't understand what all the fuss is about. If I wanted to reply to a Craigslist email, I could do it in about 6 seconds with a few mouse clicks and not have to make any changes to the browser at all, nor would I need to install any type of a plug-in that might not be supported the next time the browser gets updated. Right-click the Craigslist email address Select Copy E-Mail Address with a left-click Open a new Tab-go to your AOL EMail Click Compose Right-click in the To: field and left--click to PASTE the email address you just copied a moment ago. What could be easier? Sometimes the problems encountered by users wanting to make everything work with one click are better solved by using what is already available to you. It's not that hard, and you just might learn something useful along the way.

Router install and internet connection question-please help!

I truly appreciate all your help mikie!It is so difficult for me to explain exactly what is going on.I only know computer basics and just enough terminology to be confusing. LOL Currently,I am connecting to the internet by going to Earthlink.net and clicking on the set up button. I am accessing my e-mail through Earthlink.net, too. That is the only way I can connect to webpages.I can no longer connect using on desktop icons or by going to internet connections. The problem started when I allowed a Belkin auto setup to program my wireless router to my computer. Even if I disconnect the router and try to connect the way I did before the router I still can not connect through my computer. The only reason I mentioned proxy server was that when earthlink had me join teamviewer4, teamviewer4 stated I was on a proxy server and that I needed to connect with my computer connection. I am basing my statement on that info. I may not be on a proxy server. Is connecting through Earthlink.net connecting to a proxy server? I have not called earthlink back yet as the tech seems to get frustrated with my problem before it can be corrected. Also, it is a minimum 1 hour call each time.

How do you download fonts from internet?

Carla, the fonts will come in a zip type file and you will need something like PKunzip or WinZip to open them. Then just go to the font sites and save the fonts to your computer. Unzip the files and then go to the control panel. You will see a folder named fonts. Double click on the fonts folder. Go to File - Install. You can browse to wherever you unzipped the fonts to. Make sure the name of the font shows up in the spce below and click on it once to select it, then click OK. It will be installed and ready to use! Outlook Express is a free email program produced by Microsoft. Sounds like your original program might be corrupted, so you could try downloading a clean version (it's free). Hopefully the new version will copy across all the messages and addresses from your old version (fingers crossed), but it's a good idea to print out anything you might miss if it were lost. Then you can download the version of Outlook Express that suits your operating system (Windows or Mac). Many sites offer Outlook Express for downloading, incuding MS itself (www.microsoft.com). Mikie, No, I didn't download it from Angelfire; the short cut icon has been on my desktop since day1. Where do I find the search or run box?

Maybe the easiest would be;
Right click the desktop & choose New... Shortcut
type in the box that opens iexplore ...then push next
type in IE to name of the shortcut .. then push finish

What happens when you double click that new IE shortcut you just made ? It normally would open internet explorer.

Here's my speculation -

Internet Explorer updates automatically with Windows updates. The shortcut you have is old and points to the download and tee-ing up of superceded version older than what is now installed. You shouldn't have clicked it, but you did.

It's now teed up to install the "update". It will try every time. But when the existing (newer) Explorer version already there is polled by the function trying to do this non-update update, IE says: "Stop, your update is old and unneeded".

The only way to stop such a tail-chase, if my speculation is right, is to do a Restore to a date earlier than the day when you clicked on the shortcut. In the meantime, click once on the shortcut and then hit the delete key so that it doesn't happen again.

System Restore, not System Recovery, will fix this. Don't do System Recovery.

If you've installed any new software or updates in the intervening time since the shortcut was clicked, you'll have to repeat those steps after the Restore is done. Your data files will be unaffected.
